Travel Day 2 of 3

Thursday, April 13, 2017

I think we are getting slower as we move north. It was close to 11 when we pulled out of the Walmart in Sulphur Springs this morning. The sky was blue with big white fluffy clouds it should be a great travel day.

Wildflowers, cows frolicking in the water, and
passing a cornfield a nice view out the window.

We took the bypass around Paris and we are on
US 271 still heading north.

Leaving Texas behind we have crossed into Oklahoma
and I am humming the song from the musical.

Driving through Oklahoma on the backroads. We have been through Oklahoma a few times, East and West on I-40 and South on the Indian Nation Turnpike (This is a very bumpy toll road and the only time we had something break inside the Crusader). This time we decided to cut across to Arkansas using Oklahoma State Highways. The roads themselves were not bad except for the most part there is no shoulder to speak of and a "valley" next to the road. (I probably told Tom more then he wanted to hear...you do not want to go off the road here.) The scenery for the navigating passenger was breathtaking.

The wildflowers are wonderful they look to be
a really dark burgundy.

The clouds were beautiful.
Hoping there is highway on the other side. :)

The views continue.
The bottom left picture I wondered what they were doing

when painting the line, a little wobbly. I missed it but at
one point it zigzagged right to the edge.

We saw several rebel flags.

Tom drove the Stinger B up and down a lot of hills today.

Not to mention curves at the bottom of the hills including this
one just after the sign saying we were leaving
The Winding Stair National Recreation Area.

No Name City

Wister, OK said Hi and Bye.
Middle picture, Animal Health and Hardware,
just thought it was interesting combination.

We are back onto an almost flat surface.

Leaving Oklahoma behind we cross into Arkansas.

On I-540 North we are only about 4 miles from today's stop.

We ended the day parking in a Walmart in Ft. Smith, Arkansas after 212 miles. It was a long hilly, windy road day but we are here safe and sound so it was a good day.

I cannot help myself...I leave you with these lyrics, today...what can I say, except, I do love Rodger and Hammerstein musicals...and I always pretty much hum this every time we are traveling through Oklahoma. Even now as I write this I am humming...:)

Oklahoma

They couldn't pick a better time to start in life
It ain't too early and it ain't too late
Starting as a farmer with a brand new wife
Soon be living in a brand new state
Brand new state, gonna treat you great!

Gonna give you barley, carrots and pertaters
Pasture fer the cattle, spinach and termayters
Flowers on the prarie where the June bugs zoom
Plen'y of air and plen'y of room
Plen'y of room to swing a rope
Plen'y of heart and plen'y of hope

Oklahoma!
Where the wind comes sweeping down the plain
Where the waving wheat
Can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the rain

Oklahoma!
Every night my honey-lamb and I
Sit alone and talk
And watch a hawk
Making lazy circles in the sky

We know we belong to the land
And the land we belong to is grand
And when we say Yeeow!
Ayipioeeay! Yeeow!
We're only saying "You're doin' fine Oklahoma"
Oklahoma O-K

O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A
Oklahoma!

Hope you had a smooth day.
If you have a moment to leave a comment we would love to hear from you.

    1. The scenery is beautiful and even though our coach has been doing well on these hilly roads...we do not think we will do this particular ride through Oklahoma, Arkansas, or Missouri again.
