Texas is Behind Us and We are in Arkansas

(Clicking on the pictures will open them larger in a new window.)

Wednesday, April 10, 2019

After driving 568 miles across Texas, the last 121 on Interstate 30, we crossed the border into Arkansas. After a brief stop at the Welcome center we backtracked on US 67 and connected to US 82 and started to make our way across Arkansas. We ended our day at the Walmart in El Dorado, AK after 228 miles.
(Side note: it does not matter how many times Tom has cleaned the windshield it is still dirty within minutes of getting back on the road.  So today's pictures are again through a dirty front windshield. I have tried to remove as many spots as I can but apologize for the ones left behind.)

Leaving the rest stop this morning and merging on to I-30.

These two birds were having fun floating on the wind currents.

After being on US-380 the last couple of days it is strange
to be in so much traffic.

Tom's nickname in high school was Duke.
(My girlfriend had a dog named Duke when we were growing up
and I could never call him that.)

There are a lot of Semis moving down the road .

It is impossible to tell in a picture but I can see it in my mind's eye.
The grass was waving gently in the wind.

As we got closer to the Arkansas border I realized I had not seen
one very large flag as we made our way across Texas.
Then in the distance there it was peeking above the trees.

Driving by.

Then I saw another one above the trees on our left.

We were in Texarkana, Texas

and there were stars and state maps

on the overpasses.

Crossing into Arkansas
in the bottom picture you can see our welcome.

They certainly have bright colored overpasses in Arkansas.

Leaving I-30 and approaching US-67

We are now on US-82 and there is more traffic then we expected
but it is still  not as busy as the interstate.

We had heard several train whistles but could not see a train
then there was a slight opening in the trees and this one was sitting there.

Fred's Super Dollar. I just really liked the name.
We passed two of these today. I wonder if it is a chain.

One big difference driving on a Arkansas US Highway versus
a Texas one is the speed limit. In Arkansas it is 55 in Texas it was 75.

Even the cows want out of the sun this group was closely
gathered under the trees.

Again they are huddle under the tree except for the one lone tough guy.

This was a moment but Tom said, we had plenty of room.
I closed my eyes, not sure how that was going to help, but  we do
still have a roof on the Stinger "B".

We are in the south traveling by a city called Magnolia;
How perfect is that?

The last picture I took today was this tree.
I saw it has we turned a corner and I just liked it.

Not long after this Hazel, you remember Hazel the voice of our Google Maps, took us off on to State Highway 225, she is directing us to Walmart, there are no pictures because I was trying to keep us on the road by leaning left. Lets just say it was very narrow with no shoulder and you did not want to go off the road. After about 2 miles we received instructions to turn right. There was no turning the Stinger "B" right on to this road. Luckily we could turn left and there was a gas station that Tom was able to drive us through to get us back on to the road we had just come down. Two lovely miles back and we were back on US-82. Hazel re-calculated and did get us here on a somewhat better route. When we leave this morning the directions are somewhat different from those that brought us here and do sound better. We were a little disappointed in her choice of directions today but, since, she very seldom lets us down we have decided to forgive her...this time.

All and all it was a good day and we are looking forward to today's ride.

We are glad you stopped by and hope you enjoyed looking at today's pictures.
If you have time to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you.

  1. Is Hazel set up for motorhome or car?? I actually had to program mine and she's been very good to me. Don't you just love all the green? Even if you are looking through a windshield covered in bugs. I don't think it's going to get better any time soon. Windex works VERY well.

    1. I am not sure I can set "Hazel" google maps for a motorhome. I will have to look into it. The green is wonderful but the bugs just keep coming. We have the windex now...lol but at this point, making miles, it is a hopeless cause trying to keep it clean.

  2. Aww..you're in my favorite state, Arkansas!! My daddy was born and raised there in the Ozarks :) Beautiful pics and of course I Love the flag pics! Back roads are so much better than interstates! Our Hazel (who we call GIP) does us well most times, and then there's some just like yours....Travel safely you two!

    1. Thanks Shirley. What we need to do is spend some time in Arkansas all we seem to do is drive through amd what we see is beautiful.
I think the problem with Google maps, when it fails, is what Nancy mentioned it is set up for cars. Which sometimes just doesn't work for a bigger rig.

  3. Wow, some great photos. Love the lone bull standing in the sun. Tough guy!! Like you I find some of the back roads a bit of a challenge as they are skinny and windy. Smart move to turn around and find a different way to get to your destination. Continued safe travels.

    1. Thank you, Deb.
Before we turned off we had a moment of doubt but the start did not look to bad...live and learn as the saying goes. Luckily we had a way to turn back.

    1. In the end that few miles was a small glitch in an overall good travel day.
Hazel said to say hi to Wilma for her.

  5. Glad Hazel didn't take you too far out of your way. We've had Tom set just to display the Map for the last number of days. Works for us.
Be Safe and Enjoy the View through the Bugs.

    It's about time.

    1. Yes, not far off our path was a good thing and being able to turn around was the really good part.
      Stay safe.

  6. Sometimes we have to let the Hazels and Tom's (mine) have their say. We may not always agree but it is a free speech country.
Love the pictures, Deb. Seeing the greens and yellows cries spring. Glad it was a good travel day and you saw a lot of favourite things that made you smile. Even Duke's. Little things like that make my day too.
Safe and interesting journey as you move on today.

  7. Thank you, Patsy
I know Hazel meant well which is why we we could not hold it against her...lol
It is spring but as the miles go by it is going in "reverse"...still beautiful, though.
