Beautiful Clouds Filled Our Day

I have probably three catch up posts to finish but today's post is about yesterday's clouds. Cloud pictures that exist because we took a ride over to Tombstone to have lunch with Elva and Jerry at Big Nose Kate's. I think most of us who blog or anyone who has read George and Suzie's Blog  have heard about this place and enjoyed spending some time there mainly because George always made it sound like a place that would be fun to visit. Tom and I have stopped at least once a year, if not twice, to enjoy a nice lunch and the entertainment. This was Elva and Jerry's first time and what luck, for those of you that have been there, we got the table to the left as you walk in and up a couple of stairs.  Good food and even better company and for the first time since we have been going to to Tombstone I realized when we got home I had not taken one picture while we were there. I am going with what Elva said when I texted her about it, we were to busy talking. It was definitely a fun time and the memory will last even without a picture.

It had been raining on and off pretty much since Tuesday evening but we decided to tough it out and go as planned. We did have rain drops on the windshield as we drove over and it was still windy and cold when we stepped out of the Jeep but the rain had stopped. After lunch we parted ways we had some shopping to do in Sierra Vista and Elva wanted to take a ride up to see the Linear Garden at the top of the hill that Nancy, Kissack Adventures, has mentioned in her blog. It is a fun and quirky collection of "stuff" and definitely worth the ride up the hill. Another visit we make every year just to see what has been added. Plus, the views of Tombstone are excellent from up there.

That all being said, what follows is a collection of pictures of today's clouds. Not much more to say about the clouds in my opinion they are beautiful and speak for themselves.

Leaving Quail Ridge looking North towards

the Whetstone Mountains.

Looking toward Huachuca City the sky is completely grey.

Looking ahead as we drive East on AZ-80.

Off in the distance we can see sunlight on the highway.

The Dragoon Mountains in the distance.

Then there are cottonwoods in the distance

which means we will soon be crossing

the San Pedro River.

We have now turned onto AZ-80.

Leaving Tombstone and seeing patches of blue sky
and I believe those are the Tombstone Hills.

This is Charleston Road and will bring us into Sierra Vista.

Now we can see the Huachuca Mountains

in the distance ahead of us.

This was my favorite picture today.

This is looking right as we head towards Sierra Vista.

More Cottonwoods as we cross

back over the San Pedro River.

We would look one way an the sky was cloud filled

then another and the blue sky would be peaking through.

Finished shopping we are now on AZ-90 headed home.

One last look at the Huachuca Mountains for today.

Going through Huachuca City and looking at the
Whetstone Mountains in the distance.

One last picture to the East as we headed home.

It was one of those special days to be tucked into our memory book as we continue to realize how blessed we are to spend time with wonderful people as we live our retirement dream.

We are so glad you stopped by!
If you have time to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you.

  1. I'm really glad you enjoyed Big Nose Kate's. It was one of our favourite places to eat. Did anyone have the Rueben sandwich?

    1. We did have a good time. No, no one had the Rueben but we all enjoyed/were happy with what we had. I should try that next time; Tom always orders the brisket...lol

  2. You even sat at MY TABLE!!!! I love the view from there. It's a fun place to spend an afternoon and the pastrami sandwich is wonderful. The rain hasn't been fun, but the clouds are fabulous. I think they are a little late this season however. I'm happy to see someone take as many pictures of them as I do!!!

    1. That is the best table in the place we have sat up on the other side before but you do not get the total view. I have been fascinated by clouds for as long as I can remember. I even remember as a child laying out and watching them float by and picking out shapes. I still do that when I sit out or when we are driving down the road.

  3. I think all those clouds you photographed are now here today! That Big Nose Kate's diner sure is an icon and a must to visit when in Tombstone. I'd like to visit again some day.

  6. It was an ever changing day. The weather couldn't decide what to do. I almost forgot about the Linear Garden. It was on my bucket list so I'm glad you reminded me. The view from the hill was amazing. In spite of the cold it was still a memorable day. I love those cottonwoods. Yesterday we stopped at the San Pedro House. It was closed because of Covid but I enjoyed just standing there and loving those trees. Thanks for a fun day!

    1. Total agreement about the weather being ever changing. It was interesting how the view of the sky changed pretty much in each direction. The cottonwoods are beautiful. We have driven into the San Pedro house, also. I am thinking it must have closed because I have no memory of going in. Still nice to see the trees in that spot.

  7. So glad you two made a special day of a day where the weather was not so special. Typical of our weather lately. One minute dark angry clouds and the next puffy white with blue skies peaking through.

    1. The interesting part on Wednesday is that looking one way there were dark angry clouds and then we could turn and see white fluffy clouds with blue sky. Tom and I are glad we all decided to brave the weather and go.

  8. Wow that IS a lot of clouds. I still prefer sunshine though. :D
Big Nose Kates, yup, we have enjoyed a couple of meals with the Reuben being a favourite of mine. :)
Are they practicing social distancing? That would be a difficult place to do that!

    1. We were distanced because of the location of the table. Deb said tables had been removed.

    2. There definitely was a lot of clouds. I hear what you are saying about the sunshine and I do love blue skies but I find there is just something fascinating about clouds in a storm.
I am not sure how social distanced everyone was but like Elva mentioned above, I could definitely tell there were less tables. Usually you walk in and there are tables right away not so right now.
