Wind, Clouds, Mountains, and Still Adding Our February Memories

Tuesday, March 22, 2022

The sun came up on our day

and then it went down on our day.

In between our day was mostly a quiet one. I did talk with the Design Engineer about approving the final measurements on the valances we will be having installed on our way back to Michigan in April. Tom went into Quartzsite to take care of a couple of things on his to do list. While he did that I did a little crocheting and put together this blog.

The wind is still with us but sitting next to the Stinger "B"
we did enjoy our Happy Hour looking out at the above views.

The people inside the Stinger "B" were up and moving early this morning. Coffee time was a quick and we were out the door headed for Los Algondones for what we hoped, and now looks like, was Tom's second from last appointment until fall. The wind was definitely with us through the night and when we got up this morning and would continue throughout the day. We pulled in our big slide the night before not wanting to take a chance, with the wind gusts being predicted, with our topper. When we arrived back last night we were glad we had made that decision; one of the first thing we noticed was one corner of our patio carpet next to the motorhome was ripped out of its ground stakes. Since Tom does stake it down pretty taut there must have been some good gusts to have gotten under and pulled it up.

The sun coming up through the dust.

The windshield is dirty.
Looking east where we turn onto US-95; the dust is with us.

Looking east the mountains were hidden in the dust

yet interestingly not on the west side.

I lucked out and got the window down in time
to capture this bird floating on the wind.

Sitting in the courtyard waiting for Tom's appointment.
There was just enough breeze to make sitting in the
sun a pleasant experience.

Anyone who reads our blog knows I very seldom post pictures of food, drinks yes, but not food...lol Mostly because I never think about it. Today Tom mentioned it just after our meal came, picture below. This is the restaurant just across from the border crossing back into the US that sells Margaritas to go. We heard that besides the Margaritas the food was also good so today after Tom's appointment and a little shopping we stopped for lunch. What we heard was right and we would definitely stop again.

Lunch at Pueblo Viejo in Los Algodones.
Just to be clear Tom drinks a strawberry margarita and is on
his second one and I was still on my first...lol
Our ones to go for the border line above.

The sun going down on our day

as we head home.

We usually see this blimp in the sky but tonight we could
see it tethered to the ground.

Looking west we could see a lovely afterglow.

Then it slowly left as the sky turned to black
as we continued north to the Roadrunner BLM and home.

We actually had a plan for today and it included Mass at Queen of Peace Catholic Mission in Quartzsite. The last time we attended Mass here it was at 4:00pm; it has since changed to 3:00pm. Which means we were just a little late. So we decided to take a ride down Plomosa Road and then take a primitive road that connects back to Quartzsite. Sometimes we make good decisions and sometimes we do not. It had been a while since we had driven it and in that time it has been well used by off road vehicles.  We knew it was primitive but now is quite rutted and a lot of large rocks have made an appearance. Sadly we will not take that ride again.

Early in the day I could see dust in the distance.

As the fluffy clouds made an appearance
so did the shadows on the mountains around us.

There is a never ending dance of
light and dark on the mountains.

Looking out the window I saw a small dust devil form across the pad
we are on. By the time I focused my camera it had veered to my
right and was disappearing as it went by the front of the Stinger "B".

Then the rain came but it only lasted maybe five minutes.

As we left to head in to Mass the sunlight

was lighting up the floor of the desert around us.

Driving down Plomosa Road we can see the
Plomosa Mountains in the distance.

I had not taken my camera so these were all taken with my phone.

Teddy Bear Cholla Cactus.

On the primitive Road between Plomosa Road and Quartzsite.

Back home in time for the end of tonight's sunset.

Some pretty color in the clouds as the sun leaves our day.

Almost out of sight.

Today was a good day. It would have been a little better if we had known about the time change for Mass but that is what it is.

I am not sure exactly what we did on Saturday. I do know I spent some time organizing the rest of the pictures I have from the time I was not blogging but other then that nothing comes to mind. My theory is since we are retired we do not have to be doing all the time. I can tell from the pictures I have I did not take any until it was close to sunset and we had clouds with us most of the day.

The sun was still up behind the clouds when I stepped out.

Just a couple of clouds

I found

interesting.

Even though the sun was still behind the clouds it was
lighting up the Kofa's to the Southeast of us.

Then just before the sun dropped behind the mountains

it made an appearance.

We had a cute little visitor this evening as I sat out and waited.

Then what I was waiting and hoping for started.

The clouds took on a nice afterglow.

A beautiful ending to the color show.

One of the many ocotillos by us.

No pictures but I wanted to mention here that we asked Cathy and Shane if they would like to join us for a fish fry over at the restaurant in the Westwind RV Park. Happily they agreed and we spent a wonderful evening enjoying good company and good food. Plus, it was warm enough to sit out at one of their patio tables which is always nice. The evening ended on a good note when we found their home and ours in the dark. I think I mentioned something about this fun before; basically if you have done this you understand. If not I doubt I can explain just how inky black it is.

Watching the hummingbird at the feeder as the sun sets on our day.
The nice thing about digital versus film back in the day is
I was able to take and delete about 19 shots to get this one.

Doug and Nick along with Yuma arrived back yesterday parking back next to us out on Ogilby Road. When we all parted ways the plan was to all, Cathy and Shane along with Doug and Nick plus Tom and I, meet back out here for a Super Bowl Party. Our hosts Cathy and Shane are parked across the way so midafternoon Doug and Nick followed us to their place. They planned a very nice afternoon for us all. Which included delicious snacks. Pictures would have been good and I checked Doug did not take any either. Then dinner of  Sonoran Hot Dogs and Lasagna followed by three different deserts. No one left hungry. We had fun doing a football pool, well Tom and I did we won 3 out of the 5 chances to win money. It was a wonderful day into the evening spent with friends.

Left to right: Cathy, Tom, Nick, Doug, and Shane.

The sun going down behind their site.

Valentine's Day and we went to Los Algodones to get our teeth cleaned. Well it ended up that only Tom got his cleaned. I had forgotten to take my antibiotics but since we would be going back for the start of Tom's fun they rescheduled me at the same time as his next visit.

Valentine's Day Roses.

Our first visit this year with Dr. Eva Urena.

Margaritas at El Paraiso.

I caught both our visiting Hummingbirds not once

but twice today.

Sunset

The last of today's light.

The days keep slipping by as we enjoy this time in the desert living our retirement dream.

We are glad you stopped by!
If you have time to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you.
