There was fog when we got up this morning and as we were drinking our morning coffee I decided to step outside in the fog and mist to take a few pictures.
I took this at 8:55AM. The area surrounding us is usually filled with mountains and sand dunes in the distance. |
I took this at 10:12AM. As the day progressed we could see the mountains. Still no sand dunes. |
I took this at 1:36PM. All our scenery had returned. |
Tonight's Sunset |
It drops quickly out here. |
Then there was a slight bit of a pink afterglow. |
It was just a day of Tom and I living our life and doing what needs to be done. Tom went and dumped garbage at the nearby rest area and came home with a bladder of fresh water to fill our tank. He then went back a second time so our tank would filled to the brim. I did some chores around our home and began to work on this blog.
Later Deb, On a long and lonesome highway, came by and we sat outside in the sun and chatted about this and that. Before long the sun was making its way down so we said our goodnights and see you tomorrows.
Nothing unusual yet a day that I would put in the good day column.
Tuesday, November 29, 2022 through Monday, December 5, 2022
In our last post before Christmas we had left our son, daughter-in-law and their children's home in Lower Michigan and had crossed the Mackinac Bridge and reached the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The goal our daughter's home.
These smiling faces are three more reason's the miles were worth it. |
There is also a small water park at the resort |
that the kids really enjoyed. |
Driving along Little Bay de Noc, which is part of Lake Michigan, near our daughter's home on two different days. In the bottom picture we can see the ice starting to form along the edges. |
What can I say except we drove these miles to spend time with our children and grandchildren. Time is what we spent and we enjoyed every minute. I did not realize until I started to put together folders of pictures that I had not really taken many pictures at either of their homes. To busy just enjoying the cuddles and hugs to think of it.
Tuesday, December 6, 2022 and Wednesday, December 7, 2022
When we left our daughter's Tuesday morning I was not feeling all that good. The next stop was to be my sister's but I did not want to go there sick. So our first stop was Green Bay, WI were we spent the night. Our second stop was Sheboygan, WI where she lives but we opted to spend one more night in a motel there to be sure I was over what turned out to be a bad cold.
Thursday, December 8, 2022 through Saturday, December 10, 2022
These are the days we spent with my sister and our niece was able to stop over and spend some time, also. I know we had a good time. We did some shopping, had pedicures, and watched several Christmas movies. There was reminiscing about the past and Perry. Lots of good memories to remember but the hole he left with his passing will always be there.
I did not take one picture.
The time certainly flew by. It seemed like we arrived in Michigan and then in a blink of an eye it was time to head west and back to our home, the Stinger "B". It was sad each time we left their homes after our visit. Though, I believe a true sadness would be if we were ever happy to pull away.

The plan was to pull out of my sister's driveway by noon and by 12:10 we were on our way. It was those extra hugs that took time but they were worth it.
We did not see any snow coming down from above but we did see some evidence that it had along the way. |
We stopped for the night at the Comfort Suites in Lincoln, IL.

On our way this morning under cloudy skies. We were soon crossing the state line in to Missouri.
We crossed the Mississippi and where officially back in the West. |
The sun tried but just could not stay out. |
We turned South at St. Louis and crossed into Arkansas. Upper left it is hard to see but those are birds above us. |
We spent the night at the Econo Lodge in Jacksonville, Arkansas
Tuesday, December 13, 2022
We were up and moving early this morning. We knew we were heading into bad weather and were hoping to be able to head south in Texas and avoid as much of it as possible.
Heading West out of Jacksonville, AR and glad not to be going East. We drove through rain on and off but nothing to bad or that lasted to long. |
Still a dreary wet day when we stopped at the Welcome Center in Texarkana, TX |
The woman at the desk at the Texas Welcome center after looking at the radar and the storms path showed us a route that looked like it would take us through some rain but far enough south to keep us out of the bad weather. The route did just that. It also kept us far enough North to keep us out of what did not look good to the south. We did get one Tornado warning on our phones while we were still in Arkansas but checking it was Northeast of where we were.
Towards the end of our day the sky did lighten up. |
It was a long day but we stopped for the night at a Best Western in Johnson City, Texas.
Today was our 53rd Anniversary and I would rather we not spend any more Anniversary's watching the radar on my phone for bad weather/tornados. On a positive note, we ended the day in one piece and together; in the end that is what really matters.

Continuing West this morning on US-290. The clouds would soon leave large patches of blue sky shine through. |
We decided to stop at the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park for a quick visit today. If you would like to read about this stop click on Older Posts at the bottom of the page and that should bring you one post back to it.
After our quick visit to the Lyndon B, Johnson National Historical Park we made our way to Fredericksburg |
where we took a short walk. |
We had lunch at the Fredericksburg Brewing Company, the oldest operating brewpub in Texas. The food was very good and we could have easily split one hamburger and been satisfied. We each had a beer and for someone who rarely has a beer I would have to say it was good. It would have been nice if one of us would have remembered to take a picture.
We made it to Ft. Stockton, TX where we spent the night at the Executive Inn.
Side Note: It has been a while since Tom and I have done any long distance traveling in anything but the Motorhome. Two things: One, it is really strange sitting this close to the ground. We are looking up instead of down. Two: it is really, really, really strange passing other vehicles. That very seldom happens in the Motorhome and when it does they get their picture taken.
Continuing on it was not that long and we were on I-10. |
The grass is glowing in the last of the sunlight. |
Tonight's sunset through a very dirty windshield as we continued West. |
Thursday, December 15, 2022
We were up and moving early today only to end up waiting almost 30 minutes for our coffee at a small coffee shop in Ft. Stockton.
Tom said it was a lot easier driving through El Paso in the Jeep. |
Then we left Texas behind and we are crossing through New Mexico. |
Our third state for the day. We are in Arizona. |
We stopped for the night in Wilcox, Arizona at the Motel 6. (The light was on.)
Friday, December 16, 2022 through Sunday, December 18, 2022
Today the 16th was our last day traveling back to the Stinger "B". Only about 140 miles and tonight we will be sleeping in our own bed tonight.
Driving through the Texas Canyon. I never get tired of seeing these boulders. |
I can see Benson in the distance. |
Spotting our first Saguaro. I got distracted and missed these guys in November. I was not sure I would see them sitting so low in the Jeep but there they were tall and proud. |

Passing through Tucson. |
There is Picacho Peak ahead. |
Soon after we spotted the sign for exit 203; just a few more miles now. Then we decided to stop for lunch before going any further. Looking at the time and realizing it would take a little bit of time to get the Stinger "B" parked, plus, knowing until I made a grocery run there would not be any food in the refrigerator we both agreed stopping at Carl's Jr. was a good idea.
5,306 miles and we are back to our HOME!
We are glad you stopped by!
If you have time to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you.
Glad to see you are set up and enjoying the views. The last few days have been strange as far as weather. Warm in the mornings with heavy dew and bright sun after 8 am and then clouds roll in and a bit of a breeze picks up. No fog here but the low lying clouds make for some nice pictures on the mountains. Almost a new year, I believe we are ready!
ReplyDeleteThe dampness the last couple of mornings has seemed strange for out here. We are ready for the new year, also.
DeleteCrazy trip but worth every minute with the grandkids. I love that you stop along the way and smell the roses. I just smell the puppy dog!! Bet the Bee was glad to see you!!!
ReplyDeleteIt was a crazy trip but seeing the grandkids and the kids did make it worth it. I do not know how glad the Stinger "B" was but I do know we were happy to see her..😊.
