A toast to what has been a Wonderful Ninth Adventure! |
No we are not back in Michigan that will not happen for a few more weeks. Tomorrow, though, starts a different type of traveling it will mostly be about getting from point A to B and some praying and hoping that we can get to point B. Some of our plans are still up in the air because of the weather ahead on our route and at our destination. So we are not absolutely sure how it is all going to play out. Life is always an adventure and one thing we have learned over the years is we cannot control everything. Sometimes it is about going with the flow and adjusting, sometimes several times, as we go. There is beauty all across this country and in these next weeks, if things go as planned, we will be seeing some new areas as we put the Southwest behind us and make miles towards the North. One thing for sure we will be enjoying the Journey.

Wanting to stay in warmer temperatures we opted to make a stop at Elephant Butte Lake State Park. Patsy and Bill, Chillin' with Patsy, have stayed here several times over the years and Patsy has blogged about it with some great pictures. Tom and I always talked about stopping and this was the year it worked out for us to do so. By the time we made the decision and checked for reservations we found that there were not a lot of options as far as sites. We are in the South Monticello Campground and do not have a view of the lake or real great views in general from our site. If we were to stay here again we now know how to make a better choice. One thing we do have with the site we are in is a sense of privacy and we do like that. What we are enjoying is being able to sit out in the morning enjoying our coffee in the mostly quietness of this place.
Looking towards the North as the sunset this evening. |
The end of tonight's sunset. |
Looking towards the Northeast. |
Our view as we sat and had our coffee this morning. |
This will be our last official stop in the Southwest for this adventure and we are soaking up all the heat we can before we head further North and East.

This morning we took our time we only had a little over an hour to travel to our next destination and check-in at the State Park is listed as 4 o'clock. We were optimistic that even though we would be early the site would be open when we arrived. As we got close we could see it was empty and had been picked up. Happily the site was ready for us to move in.
Pulling out of our site at Hatch RV. We stayed as long as we could check out was 11 o'clock. |
Every time we travel this way and pass by this sign I think of these characters. |
When ever we pass one of these signs I do ask the rocks to all stay up there. |
Beautiful mountains on our right and green on our left as we make our way north on I-25. |
There was water in the Rio Grande as we passed over it on I-25. I missed the picture on NM-26 earlier and it was pretty dry there |
Going by Caballo Lake with the Caballo Mountains in the distance. |
Some more views along the way including the construction. |
It was a perfect day with a nice uneventful drive. Those are the type of travel days we really like and enjoy.
We are glad you stopped by!
If you have time to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you.
We always enjoy our stays at Elephant Butte State Park, continue safe travels.
ReplyDeleteWe did enjoy our time there, also. It was a nice stop to stay in the warmth a few more days.
DeleteYou know i LOVE E. B. L. S. P.!🤗
ReplyDeletePlease try and get back another time by booking a site up on level A or C. We like B because we back in and otr big window looks over the lake. Enjoy your stay and yes, take your time!
When we looked at the map I was pretty sure that was where you had stayed from reading your blog. Tom said, from what he could see they were all reserved. It was a nice relaxing stop.
DeleteWe've never been to Elephant Butte but it certainly sounds beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIn the right site the views would be beautiful but from our site they were okay. Regardless we enjoyed the stop.
DeleteDitto ... haven't been there, but I sure would like to.
ReplyDeleteWe were glad we stopped.
DeleteCamping experiences vary at Elephant Butte Lake by time of year. As long-time New Mexico residents, we've seen that the main campground at Lions Beach becomes party city when weather is warmer and visitors come with their boats and jet skis. In the off-season, we camp at Quail Run, in the same general area as Lions Beach. In more crowded times, or just for a 1-night stay on the way to somewhere else, we prefer South Monticello. I just read that the boat ramp at South Monticello is reopening with the rising water in the Rio Grande. We love the area.
ReplyDeleteMade it back to Alberta a couple days ago - only a few snow squalls and no shoveling! But more weather on the way. Hope you make it home without any white stuff. Nice to meet you this winter - will keep an eye out for the Stinger next year. Safe travels! (my blog still way behind!)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you made it back to Alberta safely. They are still getting the white stuff where we are from but we will not be there until the end of May. If you spot us stop by anytime we enjoyed meeting you and look forward to crossing paths again in the future,
DeleteEnjoy your time at the park, it looks like a nice place for a few days rest.
ReplyDeleteWe did enjoy our time and it was a nice stop. Especially since we had some nice warm days even with the wind.
DeleteEnjoy your travels home. Looking forward to hearing about it. Be safe.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Becky.
DeleteWe stayed at EB State Park once and enjoyed it greatly, we've often talked of going back. I love the drive there, very scenic. I hope all the plans work out and the weather cooperates. Safe travels.
