Indiana to Dodge City, Kansas, Plus a Belated Happy Birthday

 Friday, October 13, 2023

Looking East as we left Cortez, CO this morning
heading South towards I-40 and Arizona.

We left Colorado behind today and crossed into Arizona. Coming back down south on US-491 was a very bumpy ride unlike the ride north last Friday which for the most part was smooth as could be. I am working on catching up to real time with the blog so there will definitely be more pictures.

September 20th through the 25th 2023

We ended up spending 6 nights in Nappanee, IN the first two parked at Wood Design RV and then 4 at the Pla-Mor RV just down the road.

Our main purpose for stopping here was to have the wood
frame around our living room slide replaced at Wood Design.
We are very happy with the job they did.

After the work was done we moved a few miles down the road to Pla-Mor RV Park to take a few days to regroup. We wanted to take the time to do some cleaning and washing before making our way further west and south. It was a couple of busy days but we also took time to plan the route we would take west. Our goal was Colorado to spend time there checking our some of the National Parks and Monuments there and in Utah. Some plans work others change. I will be sharing more about that has the blog slowly catches up to where we are in real time.

We had a specific route planned and it included traveling more then 69 miles today. We were ready to go the Jeep was finally in tow mode and the motorhome stairs would not go in. We had this same thing happen when we were getting ready to leave after our Siblings Weekend in Iron River. That morning Tom and my brother, Frank, undid the stairs so they could tie them up to get home. We had, at least we thought we did, them fixed at Camping World in Escanaba. After shutting the door several times they finally went in. Tom then called Showalter RV in Nappanee explained our problem and they asked how soon can you get here. After checking the contact point that brings the stairs in the service tech could immediately see the problem. They suggested we go and have some lunch and they would have it fixed when we got back. As promised it was fixed and ready to go when we returned. We again hooked the Jeep up to the Singer "B" and as we headed out of Nappanee we discussed our options as it was now close to 2 o'clock. After doing some checking and making a phone call our days destination became the Walmart in Logansport, IN.

Coming back out after picking up a few groceries, we always
seem to need a couple of things when we are stopped at a
Walmart, I decided to take a picture of the Stinger "B' and the
Very Yellow Jeep.

One thing I did not do as we were making our way from Logansport, IN across Illinois to Hannibal, MO is take a lot of pictures in fact I really did not take that many pictures at all as we made our west. You will also notice we visited a lot of Walmarts on this trek to Dodge City.

Tom drove us across Illinois today and these were

some of the sights along the way.
We crossed the Mississippi River near Hannibal, MO
and we are officially in the West.

Then we were in Missouri.

We spent a quiet night at the Walmart in Hannibal.

The Stinger "B" with Tom driving brought us across Missouri to the Walmart in Atchison, KS where we spent the night.

We crossed the Missouri River near St. Joseph, MO and
we were in Kansas.

Friday, September 29, 2023

Today we did not leave Kansas. We drove from the Walmart in Atchison to the Walmart in Salina, KS and stopped there for the night.

We did not remember Kansas being this hilly last time
we drove through here.

We made our way to Dodge City today were we pulled into the Gunsmoke RV Park. A nice stop and we spent 3 nights here.

Some pictures from todays ride.

After 5 days of traveling right around 900 miles it was time to stop for a few days. We need to find the Longbranch Saloon and have a cold one.

September 14th and 15th, 2023

When I was going through pictures for the blog I noticed I never put any in the blog of our trip from our daughter's or our son's. So today seemed like the day to do so.

We were surprised to see as much color as we did as we
headed East on US-2.
Lake Michigan was shimmering in the sunlight.

We have crossed the bridge and are in lower Michigan.
We passed this guy and Tom said he should get extra points
since it was a wide load.
We are parked and headed towards our kid's home
passing the Uniroyal Tire on I-94

  4. I loved driving through that part of the country. It's green and beautiful. As to your rig repairs ... how do you find these people to replace counter tops, wood trim and all the other stuff? Love that last picture ... it's true!!

    1. We actually drove through Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana pretty much the same route this past spring and it was a lovely ride both ways. Lots of research and visits the first time we went in search of someone to remodeled our dining area and countertops. Just luck we found Wood Design RV Interiors. Their Customer Service/Sales guy helped us find the furniture place and the counter top people are the ones they work with. We had visited several showrooms that did not come close to offering the same customer service.
