A Red Ferrari

On January 31, 2024 we left Roadrunner BLM and moved back to Ogilby Road and I posted about that here. (I do not expect any of our readers to go back to read these blogs but I am adding them for my information as I get us caught to real time.) In the next blog I wrote about leaving the desert behind after 119 days two days less then the Stinger "B" spent in the desert. This blog is about those 2 nights and 3 days.

We placed the keys to the Stinger "B" into the very capable hands of Deb, On a long and lonesome highway...., we were leaving her parked by Deb and Riley knowing she would be safe. We were off to enjoy an adventure we would have never thought of doing. Our daughter on the other hand thought this would be something fun for her dad to experience. His Christmas gift this year from Rachel was an "Xtreme Xperience" a chance to drive what they call a suppercar of his choice on the Open Road. The choices were Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, or a Corvette. The title may have given it a way but just in case Tom chose a Red Ferrari. The exciting part of all of this for me was that Rachel, also included the "Share a Drive" option so I had the opportunity to drive that Red Ferrari, also.

So we are off looking forward to this getaway and being able to, as our daughter put it, check off a bucket list item on her bucket list for us...🥰

On I-8 headed East are going through the Gila Mountains on
what is called Telegraph Pass

The one thing that strikes me

as we are headed East is how green the desert is.

Just a couple of clouds

that caught my eye.

Lunch in Gila Bend at Sophie's Mexican Restaurant.
Thanks for the information Brenda an excellent choice.

Not to many miles further and we can see Saguaros

as far as eye can see.

These guys have been around more then a hundred years.

\

Cannot forget the beautiful Ocotillo covered in lovely tiny green leaves.

I am not sure what mountains are in these pictures. I do know that when where driving through the Sonoran Desert National Monument we would have driven through the Maricopa Mountains. I also can see on the map we would have at some point on our ride been able to see the Sierra Estrella Mountains. I am going to guess these are the Maricopa Mountains, though. What I do know is the the shadows from the clouds danced across the mountains as we drove along creating a never ending beautiful show unfolding in front of us.

What or who is dancing in the bush.

Coming into Phoenix

After checking in our hotel we took a ride.
We did not want to be searching for the place
and not be able to find it in the morning.

Is that cloud peeking at us.

We knew we were in the right place when we saw the cars.

Heading back to the hotel the sun was going down

and it was almost like the sky was on fire.

After a quick bite to eat we headed back to our room to get some sleep.

Thursday, February 8, 2024

Well today is the day. We arrived in plenty of time and met the others that will be on this ride, also. There were couples driving the other Ferrari, the Lamborghini, and the Corvette. In the Porsche was a single woman. The young man, who would be leading us on the ride, was in a Cadillac. The chase car containing a mechanic and a young woman who took pictures was also in a Cadillac. After a quick briefing on how the ride itself would take place we were given two way radios for communication. The young man who would be leading us also mentioned he had a Radar Detector in his vehicle and would slow down and let us know to do so, also. He did mention it was our choice but also our ticket...lol  We then headed out to the cars.

We have been given instructions on how to raise the front for
going over bumps, where the blinkers are, and how to start it.

Then we are off on what is a fast paced trip into the mountains.

Stopped for pictures.

Then we were off again. The bottom right picture is the chase car.

At the halfway point I took over the driving.

We were less then ten minutes from the end of our drive

when the sky opened up and the rain poured down.

Ending the day and the chance to buy a video of the drive,
the pictures they took, a t-shirt, and a hat.
The young man in the bottom middle led our ride today.

Tom and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Quite different from going down the highway between 55 to 65 miles per hour in the Stinger "B" that is for sure...lol We found out that you can be going over 100mph and not even realize you are going even close to that fast. I have to say sometimes in the Stinger "B" 60mph feels like we are rocketing down the highway...lol The thing is we had to keep up to those young ones...lol  It truly was fun. So thank you Rachel for putting this on your bucket list of bucket list items you have for us. ✔✔✔ xoxo xoxo

Later Doug, Miss Adventure Travels, drove over to the hotel we were staying at for a short visit. It was nice to see him again.

Up this morning we had coffee, repacked the Jeep and headed home. Basically the trip we made East to Phoenix we will now be making West back to Ogilby Road. I always say I am not going to take to many pictures then something catches my eye and as the saying goes "all bets are off". I really did try not to include to many pictures.

We are off.

It looked like a feather in the sky to me.

I may have taken this guys picture coming and going.

Just luck I got this picture. I wonder if these are some of the ones
from the Shell station in Gila Bend before it was torn down and
the Pilot Travel Center replaced it.

Driving through Gila Bend and passing by

the Space Age Lodge. There is a restaurant and I think
we need to stop there one time just for fun.

The desert is a beautiful green.

Telegraph Pass is just ahead.

St. Thomas Indian Mission Catholic Church.

Back in California and there are a lot of billboards along here
as we get close to the exit for Los Algodones.
a
Our  exit is the 2nd on after the "Fruit and Vegie" Inspection stop.
Though this year we were not stopped once.

We have turned on to Ogilby Road and the Ogilby Hills
and the Cargo Muchacho Mountains are in our view.

Just before we reach our neighborhood we spot this rig and I can see
John Brown outside. Sadly John passed away on March 12, 2024.
In this moment in time, though, we are glad to see that him and Brenda are
parked nearby because it means we will get to spend some time together.

The first thing we notice as we pull up is that Kim and Ken,
Journey with Ken and Kim, have now joined us.
We are home!

The sun going down on our day as it lights up the area
to the east of us.

Tom and I really enjoy these last three days but it is good to be home.

We are glad you stopped by!
If you have time to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you.

  2. I know the speed of which you speak. I had a yellow corvette for 11 years. SO hard to drive normal and not speed. A fun way to spend your day. What a fabulous gift!!!

  5. What a fun experience. Jim always preferred his NASCAR drives but I think he would have loved this one. Always good to get home especially when you're surrounded by good friends.

  7. The most shocking, part of your post was the statement "We placed the keys to the Stinger "B" into the very capable hands of Deb". That sentence almost made me spit up my morning coffee!
What a fun time for the two of you though!
