A Wonderful Way to End 2017, Looking Forward to New Adventures in 2018!

December 30, 2017

Not a whole lot to report about today. Tom had a fun day trying to stop a leak we have leaving the motor home somewhere under the shower. He can see were it is but can barely reach it. He has another idea and will be trying it out next year, according to him.

I took a ride down the road to the Yuma Palms to do some shopping. Specifically, I wanted to stop at Kohls, JoAnn Fabrics, and Marshalls which I did accomplish. Afterward I was done there I headed back and made a stop at Fry's to pick up a few groceries we needed.

Once I got back Tom put our chairs out and we sat an enjoyed our
"Happy Hour" as the sunset on this lovely warm day.

December 31, 2017

We were both up before 7:00AM  anxious to start our day. After we each had a couple of cups of coffee we got ready and were on our way.

We went by several green fields along I-8, here in Yuma, on our way over to
Mass this morning.

We were on our way to St. Thomas Yuma Indian Mission. It is a lovely little church that we attended the last time we were here. History: The first mission at Ft. Yuma was named Purisima Conception, established in 1780. It became a U.S. military outpost in the 19th century and was revived as an active mission again in 1919. The current church was dedicated in 1923, its design replicates the Mission Puerto de Purisima Concepcion, which once stood on this site.

Below are some pictures I took of the inside this morning.

The music at mass today was provided by the young woman pictured above.
A talented violinist.

After mass we went and had breakfast at The Press Cafe & Bistro. A typical small coffee bistro. Tom had a waffle sandwich with eggs and ham and I chose the Quiche, spinach, sun dried tomato, and feta cheese we both agreed we were glad we stopped. Plus, I had a cappuccino which was a nice treat.

We then headed over to Ogilby Road to check out the BLM camping areas. Linda and Len had mentioned the Ogilby Rd Exit was closed and the frontage road we would need to take to it was in pretty bad shape. So we wanted to check it out before we make the final decision about parking out there or not. (We still have not decided.) One good thing even though the exit is closed the entrance back on to I-8 is not.

Our next stop was the one we were looking forward to making. We headed over to a nearby RV Park in Winterhaven, CA to catch up with a couple we met last year, Patsy and Bill, in Borrego Springs. Though we have not seen each other since then we follow each other's blogs to keep up with what is going on in our lives.  Patsy had mentioned in her blog, Chillin' with Patsy, that her and Bill had been feeling a little under the weather so I was somewhat concerned that it may not be the best time to drop in but they were outside to greet us and it felt so good to see them again. Not long after we got there Suzie and George, Our Awesome Travels, walked over to join us. We met them 2 years ago at Bloggerfest and have followed their blog since we started thinking about this lifestlye. It may sound strange to someone else but even though we may not have spent a lot of time together in person because we read each others blogs it is just like sitting down with an old friend and the conversation just flows. A little while later we had the opportunity to meet another couple of RVers, Dee and Bill,  One Day More..., again because we have a lifestyle in common the conversation continued to flow. As we sat there chatting the light was changing and the air was cooling in what seemed like  a minute three hours had passed and it was time to say see you down the road. It was a great way to spend the last afternoon, Happy Hour of 2017,  we had so looked forward to seeing Patsy and Bill again, it was nice to re-connect with Suzie and George, and meeting Dee and Bill was an added bonus.

We spent a few more minutes talking with Patsy and Bill, after everyone left, saying our goodbyes for now. Looking forward to another encounter next year.

As we left the park I captured some of the pink clouds off in the East
and the moon peeking through the clouds.

The sun had set by know but the color over the mountains was
a beautiful way to watch the end of the daylight on the last day of 2017.

We Are Wishing You
A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
May 2018 be filled with
Love, Joy, Fun, and Laughter.
