Short Ride, Shopping, and Getting The Stinger "B" Ready for Christmas

We spend Thursday night at the Ft. Willcox RV Park. With predicated temperatures as low as 19 degrees we thought it was a good idea to park where we could plug in. We stayed here once before it is a nice older park, with level gravel sites. The new owners are very friendly and she was telling Tom how they have bought some property next to them and are planning on putting in longer pull through sites to better accommodate bigger rigs. If this park had been full we probably would not have been able to keep the Jeep hooked up. We took our time leaving as we only would be driving 56 miles today.

In a short time we will be riding through the Texas Canyon.

Actually, we always make it a point to stop at the Texas Canyon Rest Area.
It is fascinating how well balanced some very large rocks are.

on December 11, 1978 just west of this location.

It is not long and we are headed down and we can see Benson in the distance.

Things are a little flatter.

Some one in the Arizona Highway Department has a sense of humor.

What can I say the whole time we are going down and then up as we travel this part of I-10 this song is going through my head. I know we are going down first and then up but this song comes to mind each time.

Now we are going up.

We have turned onto Arizona 90.

Made the turn onto Arizona 82 and we have made it to
the Quail Ridge RV Resort.

We checked in and Tom was able to get our propane tank topped off while I went and checked out our assigned site. Unfortunately, the site had a tree in the way for us to be able to get in but back at the office they were able to put us in a site that worked out a lot better. We plan on taking a walk around and make a note of the sites that would work and not work for us. That way when we make reservations in the future, and we will be back here, we will be able to know right away if the site we are assigned will work.

After we got some what settled I headed into Sierra Vista to do some shopping. We were in need of groceries and a few other items. After I got back we decided to go back over to Sierra Vista for dinner and to get a few more groceries at the Fry's.

December 23, 2017

Today I did some Christmas decorating not really going all out this year but I did want to put a few things out to make it feel more festive. While I did that Tom brought a couple of batches of wash over to the laundry here. Washer still is not working that will be an after Christmas project for Tom. Tom, also did some outside decorating. I will have to take some pictures and post them later today or tomorrow.

We had a nice dinner. Though, I do enjoy when we stop in earlier in the day for lunch and the gentleman is in front of the above sign entertaining the crowd.

Quick Road Trip to Parker, AZ

This morning instead of facing East and watching the sun rise over the mountains I decided to face West and watch the shadows move across the desert floor as the sun rose behind me.  It was wonderful feeling the warmth of the sun on my back as I sat there.

A short time later I got up and took a walk around our area and snapped these pictures of the views surrounding us. Just after this my coffee mug arrived and it was time to just sit and enjoy the early morning.

Later in the afternoon we drove over to Parker so we could attend mass at Sacred Heart Parish. It is a lovely little church and the same priest who is the pastor at this parish is also the pastor for several mission churches including Our Lady Queen of Peace in Quartzsite.

 I tried to do some research on the history of the parish and church
building but could not find anything online. They show a website but
every time I clicked on it, it brought me to a church with the same
 name in Missouri. 

After Mass we picked Lily's Mexican Food restaurant for dinner. I did a Yelp search and it had good reviews, four and a half stars. It was an order at the counter then seat yourself type of place but the food was good. Tom and I agreed we would go back again but probably not for a Saturday night out. It was a good choice for tonight, since, our next stop was Walmart to pick up a few groceries.

We turned back into La Posa South about 8:30PM. It is always an adventure finding our home in the pitch black. This is our third year parked on this pad so we do eventually come to the pile of rocks identifying our "driveway". As we turned in we could see the Stinger B lit up by the Jeep's headlights and we were home.

A Quick Visit To Tombstone

Yesterday evening we took a ride over to Tombstone for Mass at Sacred Heart Church. We love attending Mass here; it is a lovely little church and the parishioners are very welcoming. I wrote a little about the parish's history in a previous post. Sacred Heart Church

The church looked so festive with all the beautiful red poinsettia plants decorating the sanctuary. Father mentioned how it was the first time saying Mass back in the church since they had finished installing the new flooring. They had been having Masses in the original church building while it was being done, which now serves as their church hall,. We talked to one parishioner who said it was too bad we had not been there the week before as it was a beautiful experience attending Mass in that building.

After Mass we went over to Big Nose Kate's Saloon for dinner. The other two times we ate there it was for lunch and the entertainment was a lone "cowboy" singing and we enjoyed listening to him. Last night it was a younger group and though they were good it was very loud. We did enjoy our food and certainly would go back but probably for lunch.

Today was mostly spent getting ready to leave in the morning. While Tom was putting away things, checking our tire pressures, etc...etc... I drove over to Sierra Vista to stock up on a few supplies and get Tom a new phone. I was hoping it was his battery but no the battery was fine it was the phone. In fact, the young man explained, if we keep it in the old phone and keep charging it we will have a spare battery.

Since, our appointment at Lazydays is at 8:30 we want to be on the road between 6:30 and 7:00. Tom has already apologized to our neighbors for the morning noise when we start up to leave. Hopefully, everything goes well tomorrow and we will be doing some boon docking in the desert this week. If not, then we will deal with it and re-adjust our plans.
