Four Days in January Near Ogilby Road

Time has a way of just slipping by so peacefully when we are living in the quiet of the desert and out here parked just off of Ogilby Road that is what is happening. We are content to enjoy our time and wish the days would stretch out longer. The quiet of the mornings and the evenings with only the occasional sound of the long trains going by in the distance are wonderful. In between there is time spent with friends watching the sun go down, sharing our days, and the normal conversation that takes place between those that share a love for this lifestyle. As always there are the every day tasks to be taken care of yet there is still a contentment that being parked here brings to our days.

I had missed the sun rise but snapped this one a little later.
I know there was something on my lens but still wanted

the picture on the blog.

The sun coming up

and bringing its light

and warmth to our day.

The contrails in the sky over head add their beauty to the sky.

A little after 3 o'clock Elva and Jerry drove over to sit and enjoy dinner with all of us parked over here. Not long after Doug and Yuma arrived, they brought their motorhome as they will be joining the neighborhood.  Deb and Riley brought burgers with the works and salads over along with some banana bread Riley had baked. Elva brought desert and I contributed a couple of salads. If you are guessing we ate well you are right.  We moved several times following the sun but the conversation and laughs easily flowed and never wavered or stopped as we moved.  It was a lovely evening that lasted until the sun dropped behind the horizon.

Deb asked a woman walking by if she would take some
pictures for us and she very nicely agreed.

Not long after this picture of the sun leaving the day.
The evening chill set in and we said our good nights.
It was a wonderful day to tuck into our memory  "box'.

The sun coming up on another day.

The wind was with us most of the night and
continued throughout

As we were heading out to meet friends for lunch
we could see Doug resting in his chair.

Linda, Len, myself and Tom (I remembered to take a picture...😊)
We met this couple back in December of 2015 when we parked
the Crusader in the site next to them at the

Saddle Mountain RV Park.

The friendship that started there as continued throughout the years and we get together once or twice when we are all in the Southwest. Today we met for lunch and then followed them to their lovely new home, and who knows next time I may remember to take pictures of it and their wonderful views. We always have such a fun time catching up. How lucky to have been assigned that spot back then.

Riley and Yuma with sun shining on them as we
sit and enjoy the evening.

The last glow on another day worth remembering.

Slept in today until just after 8 o'clock and the sun was up in the sky before I stepped out the door.

The same picture as above with the camera's
photo illustration effect on.
I just liked the look of it.

I was playing with the different effects

and snapped these. This is something burning in Mexico.
Probably garbage.

The sun leaving our day

and some of the color

it left behind.

A tree in Deb and Riley's yard as the sky starts to
darken with the aid of the flash.

We ended our day in a circle chatting away with Deb, Riley, and Doug near the Igloo. The wind was still with us and as the light disappeared so did the day's warmth. Time to say good night to a day enjoyed.

Hello 2020!

Wednesday, January 1, 2020

The first thing on my agenda this morning was to get a batch of wash in. Then we sat and enjoyed our coffee before continuing to put things away in preparation for leaving tomorrow morning. After getting a few things taken care of we headed over to Ogilby Road to check out a place to park for the next week or so. Deb, On a long and lonesome highway...., had mentioned there was a large area around them to park so with her excellent directions we easily found their home and a nice spot a little distance away from them that hopefully will be still be available tomorrow. We knew they were off hiking with a friend today so did not expect to see her and Riley. Happily we got a late start heading over there and as we were driving back out towards Ogilby Road we could see a white truck coming our way. So we pulled over and waited and sure enough it was the dogsled with two familiar ladies inside. We followed them back to their site for a short chat that of course was not short.  What it was, was a nice visit before we cut it short to get back to the park and the chores we wanted to get done before pulling out tomorrow. We will be within walking distance for a few days so I am sure we will enjoy a few more "short chats" and we are looking forward to doing just that. They have spent quite a bit of time parked in that spot and are familiar with the area so we are thinking if we pay attention part of those chats will include some good information of were to take some hikes and rides.
(Side note: you meet some of the nicest people out in the desert.)

I missed the last sunset of 2019 but I did get this picture of
the sun as it made its way up this morning.

The last Happy Hour of 2019.
We had left to head into Yuma for Mass and as I was getting
in the Jeep I snapped this picture.
Left to right: Ken, Kim, Patsy, and Bill

The first Happy Hour of 2020.
Starting on the left: Bill, Bob, Patsy, Kim, Ken, Tom and JoAnne

Looking across at Felicity as we walked back from
Happy Hour today.

The sun slipping quickly below the horizon in the west.

Our home in tonight's sunset.

Tonight's afterglow was a beautiful and lit up the clouds
with wonderful shades of orange.

I am including this picture off a site called, Your probably from
Escanaba if.....
.taken by Bud Lemire.

Looking west down Ludington Street New Year's Eve.
Just a reminder of why we love being snowbirds.

We have enjoyed the two weeks we have spent here celebrating the Christmas Season with friends. There have been Happy Hours filled with conversations, good food, and laughter and as always there is a feeling of sadness to leave a place we have settled in and enjoyed. Yet for us it is time to move on. New adventures are always around the corner and as much as we enjoy being in a RV Park with full hookups we are anxious to be back out in the desert dry camping. The memories come with us as we pull out of the park today and the memories stay with us forever.

Walleye From Lake Erie, Friends Leave, Beautiful Sunsets

Saturday, December 28, 2019

We are enjoying our days here at Pilot Knob RV and today was certainly was one of those enjoyable days. JoAnne and Bob invited the gang over to their place for fish and chips. What a nice treat that was. Bob cooked and shared Walleye he had caught in Lake Erie. Everyone chipped in and brought a dish and we certainly had a delicious meal. The star though was the fish that Bob and JoAnne shared with us. Thank you for the invitation and the wonderful meal.

It was an evening filled with laughter, good food, stories,
picture taking, and time spent with friends.
Happy hour extended to about five hours.

The sun was already up a ways as we headed into Yuma.

At Immaculate Conception Catholic Church
the front entrance is decorated for Christmas
and they have a small creche next to the stairs.

Inside is decorated for Christmas.
The top left and bottom right pictures are panels
on either side of the entrance into the church.
After Mass we headed over to the Black Bear Diner for
breakfast. The food was good and enough leftovers for
another breakfast Monday morning.

Since we were already at the Palms Mall after breakfast we did a little shopping.

While we were gone Cheryl and Dave packed up and headed out for new adventurous further west. Hated to see them leave but their plan is to head back towards Quartzsite in a couple of weeks. So we will be looking forward to getting a chance to visit some more then.

We made it back to the park in time for Happy Hour which was at Kim and Ken's today. With the sun shining we were actually able to enjoy a couple of hours sitting outside. Right around 5 with the sun making its way down we could all feel the cold setting in and it was time to head home.

Tonight's sunset was  fantastic.

.

While sitting, eating, and watching the sunset
we noticed Patsy and Bill walk by. Bill was carrying
a plane so we also had a nice view of its flight while we ate.

Actually slept in this morning. Sort of a laid back day today. Happy Hour was gong to be here tonight and we will be inside. So I did pick up and do a little dusting. Even though trying to stay ahead of the dust in the desert is a losing battle I keep trying to win. It was fun to have everyone in for a visit. After everyone headed home we warmed up leftovers for dinner and then Tom took off to play poker. While he was gone I took down and packed away our Christmas Decorations it seemed like a good opportunity to do so.  In the next couple of days we will take down the outside decorations. As much as we have enjoyed our time here on the 2nd it will be time for us to move on down the road.

We did not see the sun all day but just before it dropped
below the horizon it made an appearance.
