Quartzsite to Why (Still Catching Up)

March 15, 2018

Started the day with lovely blue skies, white fluffy clouds and wind. Looking out the window while sitting at the table I saw this little bit of  rainbow. If  my camera had not been right next to me I would have missed the picture as it was gone just after I snapped this. The pink coloring is because of the tint that is on our windows.

The Rainbow

So as I mentioned in the quick update I sent out on Friday after leisurely having our first cup of coffee, I sorted the wash, and while having my second cup we decided to pack up and move to Why. The wind, though not terribly strong, was not giving up and the temperatures were not going to warm up so we decided to move. Tom felt the wind was not strong enough to make driving a bad choice and he is the driver so I trust him to make the right decision. Besides we knew there would be enough places to pull off and wait it out if the wind picked up.

Packed and ready to leave. Our last views of Plamosa Rd for this year.

I headed in to pick up a couple of things while Tom went to top off the diesel. The plan was to meet out at Roadrunner BLM to hook up the Jeep.

We had one hitch in the plan it looked like one of the front airbags did not want to stay aired up. After letting  the air bags deflate and then re-inflating he found if we are moving they stay up. He made a call to RV Lifestyles but they told him that is not something they work on and recommended someone in Parker. Not wanting to backtrack we decided to head towards Yuma. Everything seemed fine until we turned onto Arizona 85 and then the ride seemed pretty rough.(Update: He is pretty sure it is a leak in the hose but he cannot find it. So we have an appointment for Friday and hopefully, it is a hose and an easy fix. Fingers crossed it is not the airbag itself.)

Heading south on 95.
The clouds really are beautiful today.

Then there is the green

and more green

then one lone palm just swaying in the wind.

We have turned onto I-8 and are headed East.

Waiting in line at the Border Patrol Checkpoint we can see the vehicles
coming down the last stretch of Telegraph Pass.

Now it is our turn to head through Telegraph Pass.
Never like seeing the above sign.

The west bound lane crossing over I-8

they are on our right.

Whenever we go through here we talk about the first time and how
we did not know what to expect or how the truck would do pulling
the Crusader. This was our very first  6% grade and it was no problem.

Now with the Stinger "B" being a diesel pusher no worries and
I love coming around the corner to this view.
The first time we were heading West.

The road ahead.

Even though we had railroad tracks on our right all afternoon
I had just mentioned we did not see one train.

Green fields and yellow wildflowers.

Then out of the corner of my eye I saw a train.
Figures, the minute I mentioned it was strange we had not seen a train
all day one shows up.

Our exit is just ahead.

Heading south on 85.

One of the many murals on the buildings in Ajo.

Tailings from the New Cornelia Mine.

Where we will park our home for the next week.

The sun setting on a long but good day.

Tom the good guy he is did wash today.  I worked on organizing the pictures from the last couple of days. Thinking I would be able to get the blog caught up. Unfortunately, this is when I found out the pictures where going to take longer then I had the patience to wait for them to download. So I closed down the computer and I took the opportunity to start reading a book.  A past time I have not been enjoying enough of lately. So it is all good.

Looking towards the Northeast

as the sun sets on our day.

We are staying in a new place in an area we have visited before. Looking forward to enjoying our time here and doing some serious relaxing. Hope you all are enjoying your days.

If you would like to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you.

  1. Glad you're there and ready to relax. That dandelion reminds me that I've got yard work to do when I get home. Not good!

I miss Ajo. First place I stop to boondock each winter.
It seems so long ago now. Have fun in Why.

  2. Enjoy your time there in Why such a relaxing place to hang out. Too bad you are finding the internet slow most good for us even from the clubhouse, some people are streaming (not supposed to) and slows the whole system down.

As far as the internet it is what it is. There are always some people that are going to stream and not care they are slowing down the system for everyone else...
