While we were in New Mexico we took the time to take three rides this was the first one through the Chiricahua Mountains. We took this same ride back in April 2020 and in that blog I included information about the mountains and a links to more information. I noticed there are a few repeats of pictures. The one thing we did not plan on doing this time was to drive into the various campgrounds which is just as well since they were all closed due to Covid-19. Last time as we drove through the first few miles we saw a lot of bird watchers this year there were some but no were near the numbers of last time. Of course, last time it was spring and maybe that has something to do with the numbers. We are not bird watchers so we have no idea. What we did not know until we got here in 2018 is that this is a very well known area for bird watching.

This ride is actually in Arizona. I took a lot of pictures as we drove through and only eliminated a few. It is a beautiful ride and if we come back we would probably do it again. The next time we are thinking we would revisit the Chiricahua National Monument. Our first year as "snowbirds" we drove through this park and the rock formations would be more then worth a second look. The pictures pretty much speak for themselves so I hope you enjoy them.
I took this picture because of the deer across the way but unfortunately they did not show up. |
Heading back down. |
When you reach the top you can start to see the evidence of a fire that went through 223,000 acres of the Chiricahua Mountains in 2011. It was call the Horseshoe 2 Fire. In the blog I wrote back in 2018 linked above I have a link to a little more information.
On I-10 and we are back in New Mexico. |
A Covid warning. |
The sun is setting behind us and our exit is ahead. |
On NM-80 and I caught the sun slipping behind one of the mountains. |
Quick question: I know several of you blog everyday and I am wondering if you talked about this back when blogger switched the format. Is there a trick to uploading the pictures onto the blog? By that I mean in the order I would like them to be besides one or two at a time.
The site looks very nice! Less desert-y than usual!
ReplyDeleteWe did like that site and you are right it was less, as you called, desert-y. No cactus nearby but then no grass either. xoxo
DeleteWhen we drove through the Chiricahua Mountains we saw a whole group of coatimundi. It was so cool because I had never even heard of them before. Such a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteI had to look up what a coatimundi was because I had never heard of them before either. Unfortunately, we did not see any. We would agree it is a beautiful area.
DeleteWonderful drive, great photos. Thanks for sharing. I could almost feel the warmer air!
ReplyDeleteThank you and you are welcome. It was a warm day though a little cooler as we made our way up which was nice.
DeleteI have only been able to load one picture at a time. It will look like it uploads several, but I can only access one. Upon returning to get the second one, they all disappear. So I only upload one picture at a time. I've read about that happening a lot and Google has done nothing to fix it on the new platform. It's a pain for sure. Love that area of the mountains.
ReplyDeleteI was afraid that was the case with no solution. It is especially fun that the pictures disappear when you return. Seriously, the old platform did not always do everything I wanted it to and I nicely never complained. I will say though compared to this one it was a breeze. Nancy, thanks for the input. We love that area, also.
DeleteThat looks like a beautiful drive, thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteWe think it is a beautiful drive and you are welcome.
