A Short Ride...A Short Walk...A Good Day!

Tuesday, January 10, 2023

Today started like several others out here, stepping out the door to a beautiful glow over the Cargo Muchacho Mountains. Deb is usually out there walking around taking pictures before me and as I walk out we begin to chat about the color in the sky among other things. Today we decided to make a plan and it included a short drive and a short walk. Finally accepting the fact that we would not actually see the sun until later we both turned and headed towards the heat of our homes. I was also looking forward to a hot cup of coffee.

I just liked the look of these clouds.

The sun is out there somewhere behind these clouds.

We sat outside enjoying our second cup of coffee with Deb and Riley. It was not long before we made the decision it was time to get into the Jeep and follow through with our plan. Deb and Riley do a lot of hiking out here and had talked about two interesting spots they had found and today the plan was to check them out.

Tom got out here to check out what looked like a
a windbreak someone had built.

Our second stop was the "Little Stone Place"
Where we took a short walk around.

I handed my camera to Deb and she took some pictures of the inside. (Side note: I have two total knee replacements and though they are wonderful there are places I choose not to take them. Large loose rocks and slippery looking hills are two of the places. Falling in my mind is not a good option.)

It is interesting what has been placed

inside of this place.

Tom took this one

plus these

two. The shapes and ruggedness of the rock is beautiful.

Deb captured some more of the ruggedness,

plus, she caught us down below.

There is such an open vastness to this place

and the beauty surround us at every turn.

Deb is back down, handed back my camera, and I took
this of the rocks in front of us.

Tom took the picture below of what I was taking in

in the distance.

Deb pointed out some interesting variations of colors going
through the rocks. It looked, for want of a better explanation,
like a different type of rock pancaked between two other rocks.

A baby Ocotillo.

Tom spotted a few markers along the rocks.
The upper right is what the bottom right says.
(Nadine, our daughter-in-law,
should get a kick out of this one.)

Back in the Jeep we were off on another short ride to see another place Deb had explored.
So we headed towards the powerline road then turned left off of it and veering left again made a nice triangle to visit the "Little Stone Place" again. Always interesting where roads out here will lead you.

Trying another road we came to this wash.
Deb and Tom decided to scout it out.

While they did that I took a short walk around

and took these pictures.

They are coming back and Tom is not sure we should try it.
I had seen another road just behind us. Deb scouted ahead and
we followed where we found a better way across the wash.

We made it pretty close to the place Deb
discovered where there had been some
copper mining.

We are out taking a short walk to the place
Deb talked about.
This is one tough little plant growing
in this hole.

Looking up as we walk.

This is where I stopped and watched the
others go on.

Tom took these pictures of where they went.
 It does look beautiful.

Heading back towards the Jeep I took these

pictures of the wash along the way.

Looking ahead as I walked back out.

Looking out towards the American Girl Mine

we can see the hills of tailings in the distance.

After this we headed back towards home stopping briefly to say hello to Ivan at his site and had the privilege of meeting his cute cat Miss Hailey she is not real friendly but cute just the same. Continuing home we took the time to eat a late lunch or early dinner before gathering for Happy Hour. We spent some time talking about today's adventure and like always the conversation flowed through several topics. As the sun began to set and the air turned cooler we said our goodnights and after a few sunset pictures headed inside to enjoy the rest of our evening.

The sun setting on what was a good day.

We are glad you stopped by!
If you have time to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you.
