Quick Road Trip to Parker, AZ

Saturday, March 18, 2017

This morning instead of facing East and watching the sun rise over the mountains I decided to face West and watch the shadows move across the desert floor as the sun rose behind me.  It was wonderful feeling the warmth of the sun on my back as I sat there.

A short time later I got up and took a walk around our area and snapped these pictures of the views surrounding us. Just after this my coffee mug arrived and it was time to just sit and enjoy the early morning.

Later in the afternoon we drove over to Parker so we could attend mass at Sacred Heart Parish. It is a lovely little church and the same priest who is the pastor at this parish is also the pastor for several mission churches including Our Lady Queen of Peace in Quartzsite.

There is a stained glass window
above the altar.

I took this picture of a plaque on the outside wall of the church.
I tried to do some research on the history of the parish and church
building but could not find anything online. They show a website but
every time I clicked on it, it brought me to a church with the same
 name in Missouri.

After Mass we picked Lily's Mexican Food restaurant for dinner. I did a Yelp search and it had good reviews, four and a half stars. It was an order at the counter then seat yourself type of place but the food was good. Tom and I agreed we would go back again but probably not for a Saturday night out. It was a good choice for tonight, since, our next stop was Walmart to pick up a few groceries.

We turned back into La Posa South about 8:30PM. It is always an adventure finding our home in the pitch black. This is our third year parked on this pad so we do eventually come to the pile of rocks identifying our "driveway". As we turned in we could see the Stinger B lit up by the Jeep's headlights and we were home.

Moments to enjoy and quietly celebrate."

  1. Parker is a pretty town right on the Colorado River. I like visiting there and to get groceries. Not much in Quartzsite.

    1. I agree, not much of a grocery selection here in Quartzsite and Parker is a nice choice.

  2. Sounds like a productive day and coming home in the dark to your house in the desert can be challenging at times.

    1. It is amazing how dark and different everything looks once the sun goes down. It is always nice to turn in and see our home in the headlights.

  3. I don't like the pitch black of the desert so we seldom were out when darkness hit. Looks like a good day though!

    1. It was a good day. We would rather not come back after dark because it is a challenge...

  4. Any day out makes for a nice Adventure whether it's exploring the backroads or the stores in a nearby town.
Always fun finding your way back Home after dark in the desert.

    1. In the past as we would get close after dark we would see our solar lights. This year because of the way we are angled they are hidden from the road. So we have to rely on the pile of rocks.
