Yesterday and Looking Back at February

As I typed today's date it hit me once again how quickly the time is flying by. It will not be long before we turn the nose of the Stinger "B" east and start the trek back to Michigan but for now we are enjoying this bonus time here in this place in the desert. I had mentioned in the last post we had planned on starting east on the 17th of February but dental appointments interfered with that plan. When a plan does not happen we can dwell on what will not be or we can accept what is and enjoy what will be. Those "detours" as I mentioned have been some of our best times. This one is no exception. Being back at Roadrunner BLM we have a found a beautifully quiet and peaceful place we both needed even if we did not realize it.

(Part 1) of adding February to our blog. I have several pictures I want to add to our memories from out time out off of Ogilby Road. I do love sunsets and sunrises, though I do not always make it up for the sunrises, and the sunsets out on Ogilby never disappoint so there will be quite of few sunset pictures.

We spent the first couple of days of February parked out at Roadrunner BLM and before we left to head down by Yuma we went out to dinner at Silly Al's with Patsy and Bill. I remember we talked about what a thoroughly nice evening we had enjoyed as we drove home afterwards and we were happy for the opportunity to get together before we headed out.

Today was a travel day and we were up and moving early. After we got the Stinger "B" ready to go Tom headed into Quartzsite to top off our diesel then make a stop at the RV Pit Stop to dump, get water and top off our propane tank. While he did that I made a quick stop at Coyote's for some groceries and made one last stop at Gem World. Then we met back out at Roadrunner to hook the Jeep up and head south. We were on our way to Ogilby Road but had one stop to make first at the Arizona Market Place to drop off our old front window drapes. They needed our old ones as a guide for making our much needed new ones.

After hooking up the Jeep we were off.

You cannot tell in the picture but the Ocotillos looked green.

Once we got out to Ogilby we unhooked the Jeep and took a ride to visit friends, Cathy and Shane, to say hello and then we checked out a few spots to park. The final decisions was where we had been parked in December. We had a good travel day and after what turned out to be a longer then planned day it felt good to be parked and settled for a couple of weeks.

We were up and moving early this morning, also. We were expecting company after lunch and I wanted to finish getting things set up inside. It was to windy to set up our patio area today and besides with the wind it would be to chilly to sit outside.

Shirley and Ken, stopped by for a visit this afternoon. It had been almost two years since the last time we got together so as you can well imagine there was a lot of talking going on as we caught up. The afternoon sped by and all to soon it was time to say our "see you laters". Just as they were getting ready to leave Ken remembered to take a selfie. He got us all in and we are all smiling. Thank you, Ken. I usually think about a picture as friends are driving away. A couple of hugs and they were off.

I am not going to pretend I remember what or if we did anything today. The pictures tells me we did sit out for Happy Hour. I know I use the phrase often, I never tire of........, but that is because it is true😊. The views out here as the sun comes up and goes down are beautiful.

February Slipped Right By and Now March is Quickly Following

We are presently parked out at the Roadrunner BLM near Quartzsite, Arizona. We spent most of February and the first twelve days of March near Yuma, Arizona. Except for the one week we moved into the Westwind RV Park we were out in the desert just off of Ogilby Road. Tom has been having dental work done in Los Algodones that has required several visits with one yesterday and two more next week. Fingers crossed that is it for awhile. Even though we do like being parked out off of Ogilby Road and this move has added about 60 minutes to our drive for the dental appointments it was time to move on.

No real reason as to why I quit blogging besides I just could not get motivated. Though looking back we actually could not get motivated to do anything other then enjoy our days as they passed. To be honest in the beginning there was some disappointment that the plan we had in place to start East on the 24th of February was now derailed by the dental appointments. No ones fault it just is what it is. One thing we have come to realize has we live this adventure that some of the best times have been on the "detours" and this is not the first one and my guess it will not be the last. We truly like where we are now parked and I think we needed this change of scenery. Plus, it is going to give us the opportunity to spend time with friends we did not think we would see again this year. Another plus two more visits to Los Algodones means we get to enjoy a couple more Margaritas and they do know how to make them there.

Today was just a quiet day out in the desert. One of those days if someone asked, what did you do today? The answer would be we enjoyed the day.

It was behind the clouds then peeked out just before
it slipped behind the Dome Rock Mountains.

Just liked the look of these clouds.

A nice afterglow this evening.

Then I turned and noticed the moon
shining down on the Sleeping Indian.

We started today like most days enjoying our coffee sitting outside looking at the views.

A hummingbird showed up to enjoy a
few sips out of the feeder.

Later we joined this group at Silly Al's for conversation,
food, and possibly some adult beverages.

Heading home after dinner the sun was setting as we
drove along. Then when we turned into Roadrunner I
saw this cloud; it reminded me of the hummingbird.

As we got out the Jeep the quiet twilight was descending on us.

Even though there is nothing I would describe as soft in the
desert at this time of the day after the sun is gone from sight
there is a look of softness in the desert.

We could still see the dust off to the east
in the last of the light.

birthday and we are proud to say

Tom had an afternoon dental appointment today so the sun was going down as we traveled north on US-95. Side note: there was no line today at the border crossing when we left which was a nice surprise. Figures since I found out the restaurant across the street sells Margaritas to go and I was told they are good. Tom's next two appointments should not be anything painful so we can both try them next time. If there is no line that just means we can sit out on their patio and just enjoy them.

Tom pulled over at the road to Palm Canyon so I could
take this of tonight's sunset.

We continued our ride north as the daylight faded into twilight and then the darkness took over. Our first time coming home to this spot in the inky black of the desert night but we had our landmarks and could see what we hoped were our patio lights in the distance. Then we made the last curve and there she was. Unless you have driven into the desert in the darkness you have no idea what an accomplishment that is...lol

We started today sitting out on our patio drinking coffee and enjoying our view looking towards the Dome Rock Mountains.

We had a visitor at the hummingbird feeder this morning.

Intently drinking away.

I know none of our family or friends back in the frozen north
will feel any sympathy for us but I am going to say it anyway.
It was getting a little hot sitting in the sun so we moved to the
other side of the Stinger "B" in the shade and this is our view.

Later in the afternoon sitting out for our Happy Hour I took
a little walk around where we are parked and snapped these
two pictures. I know it is part of the circle of life yet it
always makes me a little sad to see a Saguaro that has died.

Our first full day in this spot. There is stuff to do inside like dusting etc... but it will still be there to do in a little bit. Tom is busy setting up our patio area but I decided to sit and enjoy a third cup of coffee. These are my views as I sit here enjoying this moment in time.

Today is the day we left our spot off of Ogilby Road and there is no plan to come back this year. We had planned on moving the day before but the wind kicked up and we decided it was better to stay put for one more day. I usually find it bittersweet to leave a spot but honestly not today it was truly time to move on.

I will miss the lovely Ocotillos that are out here

but Patsy mentioned in her Blog that she has seen ones
in Quartzsite with there little green leaves.
Plus, there will be Saguaros which will be nice to see again.

At this point today I put my camera down and decided to just enjoy the ride and the views out the window. I made this decision for two reasons: One because we have made this trip several times in the past and I have posted those pictures and the Second reason is because we will be making this trip back and forth a couple of more times in the next two weeks and I am sure I will take pictures then.

After going into Quartzsite to the RV Pit Stop for propane and then stopping at LaPosa South to dump and top off our water we backtracked a total of about 7 miles and found a place to park out at the Roadrunner BLM.
