The Blog Has Joined Us In Michigan

 Tuesday, May 2, 2023

After spending three nights at Pershing State Park it was time to move on and continue our trek East and North. After packing up and topping off our fresh water tank Tom moved the Stinger "B" over to the dump station were her took care of that fun. We then hooked the Jeep up and were on our way. We pulled back out onto US-36 around 8:50AM.

The sun peeking through the trees

brought light across the forest floor in front of us.

The entrance to the area we were parked in.

Our turn on to US-36 is just ahead, upper right.

The road ahead through the dirty windshield.

He was crossing over to another field.

The top of the bridge we would be shortly crossing the
Mississippi River on.

We could see the Mississippi River
was over her banks as we crossed.

In Illinois and the scenery does not change.

We could see the golden grass moving in the wind.

We are parked at a Walmart in Springfield, MO
and this is the view out our front window.

The wind was with us most of the day mostly coming from behind and we were not feeling any real strong gusts. About 30 miles from Springfield it picked up considerably. It was still mostly a tailwind but every time the highway curved North or South it would hit us on the side, plus, we were now feeling some strong gusts. After 199 miles we pulled in to a Walmart that we knew did not allow overnight parking.  The Sam's Club about 6 miles away was the planned stop but the googles' map was showing a lot of traffic in that area so we decided to stop at the Walmart until a little later in the day.  After parking we walked across the street at a restaurant called Portillo's and had a nice lunch. As we were walking back to the Stinger "B" we decided to take a walk in to Walmart and speak with a manager to ask if they ever made exceptions an allowed RV's to overnight despite the signs. She said, as long as we were parked way out on the edge of the lot they did in fact make exceptions and we could stay. So decision made it is were we spent a quiet night.

We pulled out of the Walmart parking lot at just past 8 o'clock to continue our trek East and North.

Going by Champaign and Urbana
"The heart of innovation."

Wabash River

Some good advice!

After about 190 miles we pulled into the Walmart in
West Lafayette and this is the first thing we saw.

I had called ahead and was told that yes we could spend the night in their parking lot. So I went in to speak with a manager and was told they do allow overnight parking. He, also, said it is the city that puts these signs up but there has never been an issue. So hoping we did not become the first RV the City of West Lafayette took issue with we stayed the night with no issues along with two semitrucks parked nearby.

Today's goal was a Walmart in Rochester, Indiana which was only a little over 64 miles further North so we were able to take our time leaving this morning. It was close to noon when we pulled out.

IN-25

I just liked this County sign in Indiana
We drove by these barrels for several miles and never saw any
indication of construction. This was some of the best highway,
we drove over, in Indiana. Not sure why we rode in the left lane
for as many miles as we did.

Going by Mexico in Northern Indiana?

We have been by this sign a couple of times and today I decided to look it up.
Mexico, Indiana is a census-designated place (CDP) in Jefferson Township, Miami County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 836 at the 2010 census. Mexico was platted in 1834.The community's name probably commemorates the Mexican War of Independence.

Not an unusual sight in Northern Indiana.

Our stop tonight did end up being the Walmart in Rochester, Indiana where we spent a very quiet night.

It was about 7:40AM when we left the Walmart parking lot. Out first stop would be at Wood Design RV Interiors in Nappanee, Indiana. This is where we had our interior remodeling done on the Stinger "B" and there is one more thing we would like taken care of. This stop was to get an estimate for that work.

Redbuds along the way on US-31

Nappanee, Indiana
The couple pictured bottom left waved as they went by.

Moving east on US-6 this tower tells it like it is.

Yes, those are dandelions!

Who knew there is a "Donut Capital of the World"
and it is in Angola, IN and it is Tom's...LOL

We crossed into Michigan around 1:30PM.
Yes, the picture is blurry.

This small town with a population of only 100 people, according to the information I found, hosts Antique enthusiasts and dealers alike from all over the country. They come to browse Allen's shops and hundreds of booths.

Jonesville, Michigan

After traveling 160 miles we stopped for the night at the Walmart in Jonesville, MI. This will be our last Walmart stop for awhile. We did luck out and like the previous three it was a quiet night.

With only about 70 miles to our destination and a check in of 2:00 o'clock we took our time leaving this morning. I am pretty sure it was close to 1 o'clock when we pulled out.

US-12

We were about two miles before we would take the exit on to
I-94 when we had about a 7 to 10 minute delay because of
construction below on US-23.

We pulled into the Wayne County Fairgrounds right around
3 o'clock this will be home for the next couple of weeks.

After approximately 601 miles since we left Pershing State park in Missouri, 4 states, 4 Walmarts, and 4 days we are in Belleville, Michigan at the Wayne County Fairgrounds RV Park. Nothing fancy but it does have full hookups and it serves our purpose as it is the closest place for us to park at near our son and his family. As the saying goes when you live in an RV...we are home.

We are glad you stopped by!
If you have time to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you.

    1. Until we started traveling we never realized just how much of our country was farmland. The equipment they use always amazes me.
