New Neighbors

Sunday, November 12, 2023

Our day started early. We were up and moving before the sun which was just starting to show itself over the Kofa Mountains as we made our way out of the Roadrunner BLM to US-95. Turning north we were headed to Parker and Sacred Heart Catholic Church for 8:00 AM Mass.

We could see the first of the sun's light as we started out

then it popped over the mountains before we reached the exit.

Turning left on the highway this is our view.

The church was honoring Our Veterans this weekend.
Our closing song today was America the Beautiful.

Today for the first time I noticed this small
chapel near the entrance to the church.
Observant, obviously we are not.

After Mass we made a quick stop for a few groceries at the Walmart before heading home. After getting things put away Deb and Riley joined us outside for a late Coffee/Bloody Mary/Margarita Hour. We had been chatting for awhile when we noticed a Yellow Jeep coming our way with Sue, Lorne, and Archie inside, what a great surprise. They sat down to join us and after we had been chatting for a while mentioned they were going to look for a spot over this way. They both said it was a lot quieter here then where they are at Scaddan Wash. We all suggested there was certainly enough room right here no need to look any further. When they got up to leave they said they would see us in the morning or later today.

Not long after they left Deb noticed a black truck coming our way. Her and Tom both said, that looks like Black Beauty. Another great surprise it was Patsy, Bill, and Gibbs stopping by for a visit. They sat down to chat for a bit and before they got up to leave we could see Lorne in their motorhome and Sue in the Yellow Jeep coming back our way.  When I say life is fun and full of surprises out here, today was one of those wonderful days. Basically one long Happy Hour!!! Pictures of all this would have been nice but I did not take one. Luckily Patsy, Chillin' with Patsy, did. Check out her Sunday, November 12th blog, plus, she shares what may have been the best laugh of the day.

It was definitely a good day from start to finish!

Today started in the quiet that exists out here just before the sun comes up. It is a time between the inky blackness and brightness of the sun when everything in the desert looks soft and muted. Soon the sun will come up over the mountains and the shadows will reach across the desert floor. It is a time when everything starts to slowly light up and the white rocks found out here twinkle in the sunlight. The desert has a beauty all its own and this is my favorite time of the day when we are parked out here.

The sun is up and sitting outside we can feel its warmth.

A little later we joined this crew for dinner at Silly Al's.
The pizza was good and the company better.

There never seems to be a shortage of talk and laughter when we are out with friends and this evening was no exception.

This Living Our Retirement Dream is really working out. We continue to know just how lucky we are to be doing so!

Two Days Enjoyed in the Desert!

November 9 & 10, 2023

Friday

I started today standing in the early morning light of dawn waiting for the sun to come up over the Kofa Mountains to the east of us.

Looking towards the north the sun's light is touching the
tops Plomosa Mountains.

Looking towards the south I can see light on
the top of the Dome Rock Mountains.

Then the sun makes its appearance.

As the sun makes its way up it lights the desert around us.

Coming around the other side of our home I could
see the sun coming up between our two homes.
It looked like it was hugging the Saguaro in the distance.

Between the pictures above and the ones below we had a Coffee Hour,  well it may have been more like two hours, where we sat enjoying the company of good friends sitting in the warmth of the sun. The sun had just about reached the top of its path for the day when we parted ways. A little later we came back together for Happy Hour which started in the sun's warmth and ended when the sun made its downward path behind the Dome Rock Mountains. There was a chill in the air as twilight descended upon us and it was time to go inside.

The sun going down on our day.

A little hummingbird taking some sips at the end of the day.

Looking to the south as the sun sets.

Last little speck of light in our view.

Thursday

Yesterday our day started sitting out enjoy the sun's warmth and our coffee as we chatted with Deb and Riley. After a couple of hours of wonderful conversation we parted ways with plans to come back together at 2:30 to take a ride over to the Park Place RV Park. Patsy and Bill are making this place their home over the winter and they had invited us over for Happy Hour.

Sitting in their Gazebo looking out at two yellow Jeeps.
Not wanting to miss out Black Beauty is photobombing the
picture...lol I have to be honest this is Patsy's picture.

The only three pictures I took today.
Upper Picture: Sue and Lorne, A Place Called "Away"
Middle Picture: Tom and Bill, Bill writes, On Our Way
Bottom Picture: Deb, On a long and lonesome highway....
Patsy, Chillin' with Patsy and Riley

How do you describe three hours of sitting in a circle with 8 people who love the lifestyle they are living, sharing memories, talking about the present, maybe even thoughts about the future while filling the air with wonderful words and laughter. Tom and I describe it as an evening well spent.

Two good days enjoyed in the Sonoran Desert with, God willing, many more to come.

Monday, Sunset...Sunday, Sunrise & Happy Hour with Friends...Saturday, RC Planes in the Sky

Monday, February 20, 2023

A quiet beautiful day in the desert and the weather co-operated. We were able to sit outside  for a Coffee Hour this morning under a wonderfully blue sky filled with sunshine and it felt good. Later we came together for Happy Hour and again we were under a blue sky and sunshine. We probably did not solve all of the world's problems but I do know we had a good time chatting away. Conversation is never a struggle with good friends.

Looking out to the Southwest I could see touches
of pink on the clouds.

It was a good day in our little corner of the world.

Up early this morning we were on our way to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parker, AZ by 7:15AM. The pictures below were taken out the passenger window of the "Little Black Limo" as we made our way North on AZ-95. I mention this because there will be some blurring in these pictures.

Just turning onto US-95 and the Sleeping Indian
is still sleeping.

For most of the ride we only saw patches

of light on the edges of the dark clouds.

One quick spot of bright light. Even though the
the picture is quite blurry I decided to include it.

Is Snoopy running in the clouds today?

Then I could see rays of light shining

down through the openings in the clouds.

Just a few miles before we reached our destination

the sun popped above the clouds.

The picture above on the left is Our Lady of Guadalupe
and on the right the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Four of the stain glass windows. The two below are not on the
outside of the building.

After Mass we stopped at the Crossroads restaurant for breakfast and noticed several people we had attended Mass with. We had not had breakfast here in a couple of years and interestingly nothing inside had changed. The wait was not long, the service excellent, and the food was good. We would stop again.

After breakfast we stopped at a car wash and Tom took at
least a couple layers of dust off of the Jeep. Not a lot to do
inside while he was spraying away so I took pictures.
Top left. he thought he was being cute aiming the hose my way.

After the Jeep was washed we headed over to Safeway for a few groceries then across the street for a curbside order at Walmart before heading home. Arriving home we put our groceries away then it was time to head outside to wait for some friends/guests for Happy Hour. Deb, Riley, Doug, Tom, and I enjoy a Happy Hour just about every evening together and today we had four more people join the group. Cheryl and Dave arrived first followed shortly by Patsy and Bill. The conversation was lively and the time flew by; it always does when we are having fun. All to soon they were on their way home but not before we made plans to get together later in the week for a visit to Silly Al's. A nice outing to look forward to.

Going Left starting with Deb in the front left of the picture.

Like the beginning of this morning's sunrise tonight's
sunset was behind the clouds.

There was a little bit of pink on the edges

of some of the clouds as the last of the light left the day.

It was a day we enjoyed from the moment we got up until we went to bed. First a nice morning ride to Parker as the sun came up. Then later in the day time spent with friends and that always makes for a good day.

I had received a message earlier in the week from Patsy, Chillin' with Patsy about an Air Show being put on by the Quartzsite Desert Flyers this weekend. Bill, her husband, On Our Way is the president of the group and would be the MC for today's show. So we, Tom and I along with Doug and Yuma, decided to take a ride over to watch. It was fun and interesting to see these planes in flight and hear about them plus a little history of this group.

The pictures below are what I was able to capture as they flew by. I really do not know anything about these planes so I cannot add any real captions.  If you are interested in seeing them a little better/larger click on the picture and it should open larger in a new window.

Middle left is a picture Tom took of Bill on the run.

This one was fun to watch

as it left a trail of smoke behind.

In this shot it looked like the plane was just hanging there.

Cannot really see the plane but can tell by the smoke
he did several twist and turns as it came down.

This is the one flying and then landing in the three pictures below.

We enjoyed our time at the field watching the various planes taking off, flying, and landing. If we are in the Quartzsite Area next year we would certainly take the time to go and watch again.

After leaving there we made a quick stop on Kuehn street to walk around and check out some of the venders that are still there. After that we went and had a late lunch at the Mountain Quail Restaurant.

Back in time for Happy Hour we enjoyed a couple of hours sitting our and chatting with our neighbors, Deb and Doug. This is always a nice way to end our day.

It truly was a good day.
