Heading North on I 75 (4-17-2016 - 5-3-2016)

Left here Sunday morning, April 17th, drove out to I 75 turned left and headed north.

It was a great winter and spring but now we are anxious to see our children and grandchildren.

Driving north on I 75.

Pretty sure this is where the landslide was that had closed I 75.
I was watching for it then almost missed it.

Crossing into Kentucky. We spent the night at a Walmart
in Richmond, KY

Sunrise Monday morning as we leave Walmart.

If they are Flag City, USA where are the flags as you drive by.

Sure sign we are near Michigan.

We have crossed into lower Michigan.

We spent the night at  a Cabela's.

Then on the 20th of April we parked at the Detroit Greenfield RV Park not a bad park but not our favorite location being south of  Nadine and Thomas means more traffic on the ride. We are at their house in the afternoon so Papa can surprise Noah and pick him up at school. We end up spending 9 nights there visiting with three of our grandchildren and their parents.

Scenery as we drive to our children's home on various days. Nothing driving back because that drive was always in the dark.

We can see our destination ahead.

April 29th we left and headed towards Frankenmuth to spend a couple of nights and do some shopping at Bronner's.

May 1, 2016 we cross the Bridge and we are back in the UP!

We spent the night in St. Ignace at the Kewadin Casino in there RV parking area. They were not up and running yet so it was a free night.

The sun setting as we spend our last night on the road.

In the morning we headed west on US 2 and we pulled into our driveway around 11:30AM . The goal was to be there and surprise Charlotte when she got off the bus. We made it.

Lake Michigan

Our daughter and grandson waiting as we pull in.

We are home after 200 days on the road and 15,291 miles on the truck. When we left on October 15, 2015 gas was $2.39 per gallon and when we pulled back into Escanaba it was $2.14.

It was a great adventure filled with new people that we hope to meet up with again. We revisited places we love and enjoyed finding new places we hope to see again. At the same time there is something special about passing Gladstone and looking across the bay and seeing Escanaba in the distance. No matter what the future brings this will always be home. The place we both grew up, met, married, and raised our children.  This is where our roots and memories are. Here we are close to family and friends.  It is good to be back!
