Our Last Days in Kingman and Heading East (A Short Step Back in Time)

The sun going down on March 27, 2026 from our site
at the Meteor Crater RV Park in Rimmy Jims, AZ

As I sit here typing this blog we are listening to the wind make a loud statement around us. The sky has been overcast since we opened the blinds this morning and the dust is blowing. None of which was mentioned in the weather app I have on my phone. It looks like we are in for some wind the next five days. Which is not good news for us, since, the plan is to be moving on Thursday. Going with the flow we will keep our fingerscrossed we are not stuck here an extra day.

Continuing with our stop in Kingman:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Sunday, March 22, 2026

Mass at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church. On the right is the
original church.
After Mass we stopped at the Airport Cafe for breakfast.

After breakfast we headed back to our spot at the Desert Diamond Distillery to finish getting the motorhome ready to move down the road. I would be driving the Jeep separately today as our next stop is only about 20 miles down the road. We are headed to the The Little Wine Drinkers Winery.

The sun going down on our first night here.
After the wine tasting we each had a wine slushie and two bottles
of their wine would be going home with us. The tasting room
is the middle roof in the bottom right picture.

Sitting out watching the afterglow build.
Looking straight up I could see a sliver of the moon.

Does anyone else see a face in the top picture.
The sky turned a deep golden yellow as the light continued to fade.

From the minute we turned onto their road we felt welcomed, A gentleman was in the driveway pointing us to the gate to the parking area, this we learned later was Steven the owner, and another gentleman, Stu, was standing near the dump and water station waiting to greet us. This is our second stop using our Harvest Host membership and so far we are thrilled. This stop includes up to four free days, if space allows, plus the opportunity to dump and fill up with water both coming in and leaving. There is also the option to hook up to electricity for $20 per night, if you so choose, at one of the four sites and we did. The sites are a decent size with plenty of room to put out slides and we could have left the Jeep hooked up. They have a couple rows of grape vines planted between each of the sites.

We went in for a tasting, which by the way is free, and to pay our bill. What an interesting story teller Steven is. He loves wine and is proud of what he produces here. He has some wonderful stories to share and makes it a not only informative about the wine but also, fun.

This afternoon we drove over to Jill and Rick's home for a short visit. A picture of them or their home or both would have been nice. It seems unless I think of that the minute I get someplace once we start talking the thought goes completely away. So no pictures. I did take some of the ride though,

Upper left: we have turned on to the E Grace Neal Parkway.
Really that is the name and no the road does not get better.
Upper right: we drove by several acres of Pistachio trees.
Middle picture is a Desert Marigold
Bottom left the views leaving their home
Bottom Right: That is Kingman ahead.

Back at the Winery, yes this is a repeat of the picture from the
last blog.

We had another beautiful afterglow after the sun slipped
behind what I believe are the Long Mountains.

Today was a quiet day spent not doing much of anything. Around 3:30 we went over to the tasting room to enjoy another one of the Wine Slushies they have for sale. He has a machine that reaches a freezing temperature of -40 degrees, if I remember correctly it could have been -41, and it turns his Strawberry Merlot wine into a delicious slushie. There is also a Watermelon one if you prefer. The Strawberry Merlot is also known as Clothing Optional but if you want to know the story behind that name you need to stop in and hear the story told by Steven.

One of the things this host is good at is making sure everyone is introduced and feels at home. Today we met two couples that actually live nearby who stopped in to enjoy one or two slushies. A perfect drink on a hot day.

Top left: Michael and Donna and I believe Rod?
Top right: Judy and Tim
What a fun couple of hours we had just chatting away.
There may have been some adult beverages consumed.
Bottom picture is the Tasting Room

The sun was down by the time we got back home but
looking towards the mountains the sky was a beautiful golden color.

Another quite do nothing day and another Happy Hour over at the tasting room. Today Steven called his friend Rod?, I wish I was sure of his name, over to chat. He was also in the Navy so the two of them had a lot to talk about.

Upper Right: Our hosts, Susan and Steven
Upper Left: take note of the closing time on Saturday.
(He mentioned they have live Jazz music every other Saturday)
The bottom picture are the vines we could see out our front window.

Part of the wall behind the bar and those slushie machines.
The Wine picture upper right was on another wall.
What a great picture of our hosts.

The sun has just slipped behind the Long Mountains
leaving behind a lovely golden glow when we got home.

Today is moving day and we are somewhat reluctant to move on but it is time. Stu was there to make sure the water was on, though we did not plan on taking on any fresh water but we did want to dump. He also wanted to wish us safe travels before he went to straighten one of there electrical posts someone had hit. As we were hooking up Steven drove by and wished us safe travels. We had a wonderful time parked here and hope to stop back again in the future.

Then it was time to pull out and head towards I-40. One of our first stops would be to top off the diesel. At $5.849 per gallon we left a few dollars behind at that stop. Today's ride would take us about 200 miles East. The views were wonderful and the Tiffin Phaeton moved along up and down the hills with no problem. We did love the Stinger "B" but she would have struggled today.

Somewhere in the pictures above we passed a sign that said
Elevation 10,000.

Then by Flagstaff the above sign flashed and though it
is hard to see in the pictures the smoke was heavy.

As we got close to our destination the road flattened out.
The smoke stayed with us the whole way today, about 35 miles,
and we could see it in  on the horizon when we parked.

We are not far off of I-40 at the Meteor Crater RV Park. It is fairly quiet considering how close we are to the highway. This is a well maintained park and the sites are not a bad size. We do have full hookups and we have 50amps. Though 30amps is also available. The elevation here is 5,337 feet so we did come down a bit. We booked this site for a week and are looking forward to some down time and some sightseeing. We will see how the week goes.

We are ready for a couple of do nothing days in a row. Though you will notice I have caught up the blog and wash is being done. Tom has been doing a few things around the motorhome. I am not sure what but he has been keeping busy.

We did sit out and enjoyed a lovely Happy Hour tonight just the two of us. I took a very short walk to take a couple of pictures of the sun setting, one is at the top of this post, and a couple of the motorhome parked in its spot.

Sitting out we can see the semis on I-40 but the noise is
surprisingly minimal.

No, we have not thought of a name as of yet.

The last of the sun light leaving our day.

Saturday, March 28, 2026 (After working on this blog on and off today we are in real time...😊)

Our second do nothing day parked at the Meteor Crater Park in Rimmy Jims, AZ and we are enjoying every minute of it. As I mentioned at the start of this post we had wind all day but now as we are getting close to the sun going down on our day it has slowed down to a whisper.

Tonight's Sunset

Tomorrow we will be driving over to Winslow, Arizona for Mass, for a few groceries, and to stand on the corner. There may be pictures.

If you have enjoyed the pictures I have put out there
or the words I have added that makes me smile.
