Spending Time in Kingman, Arizona

 Thursday Evening, November 2, 2023

The last of the sun's light on the Plomosa Mountains East of us.

Friday Morning, November 3, 2023

The first of the sun's light on, what I believe are,
the Big Maria Mountains West of us.

Kingman, Arizona (The blog is almost caught up to us.)
Thursday, October 19, 2023 through Monday October 23, 2023

Up front at the Zuni Village RV Park in Kingman, AZ

We ended up staying here ten nights. It was a good place to stop and catch our breath after our fun with the Jeep. Plus, we have friends who live here and it was wonderful to get to spend some time with them. Restocked some groceries while we were here and I had a pedicure. I know you really do not need that information about my toes but I was happy.

A couple we know live just outside of Kingman nestled between
two mountain ranges. We stopped out to see them on the 19th
and took no pictures. Did catch the sun setting on our way home
and the cute Welcome Sign out by them though.

We had not gotten together with Jill and Rick for several years and it was certainly nice spending a few hours catching up at their lovely home. Pictures would have been nice.

On the 20th we went out to dinner with these two couples.
Trish and Pat on the left and Jill and Rick on the right.

These were not pictures taken at dinner...we were home before I thought of it. So a couple months ago when these two couples were out celebrating our 55th Class Reunion together, they were not able to come back to the UP for the event, they took these pictures and posted them on our Class Page so I grabbed those pictures. Jill and I went to St. Thomas Grade School and high school together. Jill and I met Pat when we all went to Holy Name High School.

It was a fun evening catching up as it had been a couple of years since Tom and I had seen either couple. I am pretty sure the food was good but I know the conversation was. We parted agreeing we should not let as many years go by again. There is a theme here and I will say it again, pictures would have been nice.

We went Mass Saturday, the 21st, at St Mary's Catholic Church.

The original Church built in 1906-1907 is still standing.
The wall behind the altar, in the picture above, is the wall
of the original church.

Below are pictures I took as we road around in Kingman on different days.

The Rickey Cricket Brewery and Restaurant.
We did enjoy dinner here one night. Tom enjoyed a couple
of their brews and we both enjoyed their pizza.

We stopped at Mr. D's for dinner one of the nights.

Sunday we went to brunch with Michelle and Doug, We met this
fun couple a few years ago through the blog. We had a good time
catching up and finally I remembered to take a picture.
Hope to catch up with them again while we are in Quartzsite.

As we were leaving brunch to head home, I asked Tom to go straight so I could get a picture of this sign over the street. That is when we noticed the train and the Veteran's Memorial Park pictured below. We have been by here several times when visiting in Kingman not sure how we missed both in the past but we did.

It is registered on the National Register of Historical Place.

The Kingman Veteran's Memorial Park located within the Locomotive Park.

Erected in 2006

These are the words are on the plague at the entrance to the park. In the Upper right hand in picture above.

In eternal memory of all
Veterans of Kingman
Past, Present and Future
May your deeds and service never be forgotten
or taken for granted.
With the sincerest of appreciation to the following,
who made this memorial a reality:
Dean W. Reiter Det. 887, Marine Corps League
Rotary Clubs of Kingman
Desert Construction
K&L DC Concrete
Zorn Masonry

This is a very nice memorial.

All the branches of service are represented on columns.

We enjoyed our time in Kingman and the best part of this stop was getting to spend time with friends.

We are glad you stopped by!
If you have time to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you.

YOOPER PICNIC 2018

YOOPER IS NOT JUST A WORD ITS A WAY OF LIFE

March 8, 2018

We spent the afternoon in Lake Havasu City, Arizona with around 250 other Yoopers who have escaped the frozen north. It was a wonderful afternoon and looking around you we could see groups of people laughing and talking. It is an afternoon of spending time with old friends and meeting new friends;  all with one thing in common a love and pride of where we call "home". It does not matter if you left the Upper Peninsula of Michigan years ago or, if you are like us, spend your winters in a warmer climate then make the trek back to the UP every spring, Once a Yooper Always a Yooper.

The hand waves us in.

We can see a patch of blue water in the distance.

A small peek of the London Bridge from the traffic signal.

We are here with the early birds.

Slowly the group grows.

We are under "our" tree

and sharing it with some Marquette Yoopers.

Unfortunately, I did not get a very good picture of today's entertainment.
This gentleman does an excellent job every year.

This is a beautiful park.

Rick and Tom,
looks like someone across the way was saying something interesting.

Alice and the committee do an excellent job each year putting
this day together for us all to come and enjoy.

Jill and Barb talking with Tom and Bob just behind.

Paula and Tom

Trish and Pat

(Alice, Barb, Jill, Pat and I all went to Holy Name High School together. It does not seem possible but we will be joining the rest of our classmates in August for our 50th Reunion.)

We took a quick ride over the London Bridge.

After crossing the London Bridge we are on the Island
looking back at Lake Havasu City.

A wave goodbye and we are on our way

 headed North on 95.

Heading East on I-40 as the sun sets behind us.

The sun slipping behind the Black Mountains
in a beautiful golden glow.

Continuing on we can see a train off in the distance to the
right of us heading south. Behind, the last of the sun's
light touches the Hualapai Mountains.

We turn a corner and below we see the
lights of Kingman.

Just a short distance now and we will be at our home, the Stinger "B".
We will say goodnight to a day filled with what will become good memories.

"Leaving Home always means
leaving with your feet,
never with your heart."

We hope your day was filled with wonderful moments.
If you would like to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you.

P.S. For those who were in Quartzsite in January. Look who moved and got a job in Kingman.
