A Weather Change

Tuesday, October 27, 2020

(Today's post is in real time. I will be back to catching up in the next one.)

After ariving under sunny blue skies and experiencing temperatures in the 80's and 90's during the day though it did cool down nicely into the 50's and 60's for sleeping today we awoke to this, pictured below, and 30 degrees. As I write this at a little after 11 o'clock it is up to 36 degrees and we can still hear the wind.

We knew cooler temperatures were coming the weather predicters said so. What we did not expect was snow. Looking ahead these colder temperatures will last probably until Thursday and then we will be looking at  60's and 70's the rest of the time we are here. Not complaining just feel like we are back in the UP where you never know what the weather will be like from day to day...🌞

Today like yesterday, Sunday, the wind has been blowing pretty steady and the dust is swirling so I have spent it pretty much inside crocheting.  Tom has been in and out taking care of a few things around the motorhome. Other then that we have been having those type of days were you know you did something but if asked would not be able to say exactly what it was.

Later this afternoon while Tom was topping off our fresh water tank because there is a good chance by morning  we will have temperatures below freezing I stepped outside and snapped a couple of pictures of the clouds around us. Those pictures are below.

Rusty's RV Ranch is a Dark Skies Community so no outdoor lights and if you are near an astronomer you are asked to draw your curtains at night. Some of the sites in the park have cement slabs for people to set up there telescopes and looking around there are some nice size ones for viewing the night sky.

We have been here a little over two weeks and would have to say this has been the right choice to be able to catch our breath after a busy summer and just let the days unfold. No real plans besides enjoying time as it comes.

We are glad you stopped by!
If you have time to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you.

  1. Yikes. Bundle up! I have never heard of a dark skies RV park. That information was very interesting.

    1. We had heard of them before but did not know this was one until we got here last time.

  2. No snow here (southwestern Canada) yet, but it sure feels like it today. Looks like you guys are cozy in your Stinger motorhome, so it doesn't matter if it turns white outside. At least you are free to travel to warmer or more southern destinations if you wish to do so. Take care and keep those nice photos coming.

    1. Without a doubt we realize just how lucky we are to be able to still travel to the warmth this year. We are definitely not complaining about this little blip in the weather. I will do my best to post pictures. Take care.

  3. Love, love 💘 your cloud pictures. I would like the dark skies idea. Be wonderful yo look up and see stars. No snow here but in the 40s. I still want 80s and 60s at night. Enjoy andcrelax.

    1. Thank you. It is nice to be able to look up at the stars with the complete darkness. We always enjoy that when we are out in the desert but here we also have full hookups which adds to the niceness...:)

  4. Great pictures of your area. A little cold spell is good to remind you of what you left. We're having similar weather here in Illinois.

  6. I have to remind myself where you two are to get the snow!! When we at home in Midwestern Ontario haven't seen any - yet. touch wood.
As Doug says, a good reminder of why you're heading further south. :)
I've not heard of a dark skies rv park either but we do experience that all summer long up on the Ridge. :)

    1. It is crazy we got to see snow and back there you have not yet. I am thinking it is our elevation. Hoping that is it for this year. We do not need any more reminders...LOL Unless it wants to snow where we are on Christmas Eve that would be okay...:) You are lucky to have the Ridge and its beauty in the summer.

  7. Cold front passed thru and is still here in South Texas, must be the same one that you are getting. Looks like we will be warming up soon though. Stay warm and enjoy your retirement as much as possible, thanks for the update

    1. I am guessing you are right about the cold front. They are predicting some higher temperatures here, also, as the week unfolds. Take care.

  8. I enjoyed riding along with you and Tom on the drive to reach you destination. Some of it brought back memories of our own travels in the past few years. I enjoy that area of New Mexico. We too stayed at the rest area in Lordsburg one night. We preferred the rest area at Gage more, you can park out by the little cabana buildings overnight. Enjoy Rusty's, stay warm and healthy.

    1. We only wish you and Riley were going to be at one or more of the destinations we will land at this Adventure. You are so right about the Gage Rest Area being a better choice and I thought about it as we got closer but it was still early in the afternoon and you know how it goes, just a few more miles so we are closer to were we want to be. The Ocotillos were the gift for that decision. You and Riley do the same stay healthy and warm. Hugs to both of you.
