Short and Dusty

January 4, 2018

We left Yuma this morning knowing today's destination was a short drive. The "plan", and we all know about the "plan", was Mittry Lake. After turning onto the Imperial Dam Road we drove to the road we knew was just past the bridge that would take us out to the area we were hoping to park at. What can I say it was a very dusty and bumpy road and I felt like I was eating the dust about a mile in. When we finally got to were we thought we would park, and by the way the first place we felt comfortable turning the Stinger "B" around I/we knew this would not work for me. (I have asthma and I knew the dust we had encountered thus far was already compromising my lungs.) So back out we came; disappointed but knowing it was the right decision. So we are know parked in a less dusty spot with the hope that tomorrow brings less coughing.  I am going to try the Vicks on the bottom of my feet tonight. If you are wondering about what I am talking about you can check it out here, Chillin' with Patsy. Live and learn, as they say, we are now sorry we did not take a ride before we tried taking the Stinger "B" in and there are places smaller rigs would fit off of the road. Or maybe if I had felt better at this point we could have unhooked the Jeep and went further to see if there was a place we would have fit off the road. (We had drove in here last year and this was the spot we had remembered we would like.) The women parked where we stopped was leaving and mentioned there was a lot of traffic that kept the dust blowing. The view of the lake though was great.

Imperial Dam Road.

On the way in and the bottom picture on the way out.

The Jeep pretty much tells the story.

A nice sunset always helps put things into proper perspective.

Except for the bumpy, dusty road into Mittry Lake we had a good travel day.
Goodnight and we hope you had a good day.
If you would like to leave a comment, we would enjoy hearing from you.

  2. We have been in there a couple of times, but does appear to be quite dusty especially the road in there, so no camping in there fir us either,

    1. Where we drove in it certainly was dusty and we were disappointed because the spot we had hoped for was open.

  3. Thanks for the shout, Tom and Deb. I'm dying to know if it worked for you! Also, did you end up at Mittry Lake then but just not as far as you'd hoped?

    1. You are welcome. It did not stop the cough completely but I was able to sleep for two stretches for about four hours each so I know it helped. Usually I would not sleep hardly at all with this cough. I will be putting the Vicks on again tonight. Plus, my feet feel really soft...:) No, we are farther north on BLM land. The Stinger "B" is a little to big for the areas we saw off the road. We would have had to unhook the Jeep and do a search and I was just not up to it.

    1. We drove in last year to take a look around and we did not remember the dust being as bad as it was. I am hyper sensitive so maybe it would not bother someone else as much. Tom talked to a woman who was parked just behind were we pulled off and she said it was dusty the whole time she was there.
