Parked Out on Palm Canyon Road

With a tiny last burst of light the sun said goodnight on

We are presently parked out just off of Palm Canyon Road on BLM Land and just a short distance further down this road is the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. The road is somewhat of a washboard with some dips and places where the edge of the road is disintegrating. We would not go much farther in with our Motorhome. Just down the road is a Labyrinth which I had hoped to walk this year but our time here is short and that is not in the cards for this adventure. This is without a doubt one of the quietest places we have ever parked. We drove over yesterday and will be leaving in the morning. We would definitely park here again.

Looking South from our patio area.

We took a ride up to the parking area for the Palm's hike.

There are beautiful views to look out at up there
and they seem to go on forever.

No sunset to see this evening and it was cold and windy.

The Stinger "B" is somewhere out there in the distance.

Even though we did not see the sun go down

we were rewarded with some color.

It continued to brighten into

a beautiful rosy afterglow.

Then there was what looked like two eyes looking down at us.
(It was dark by now so this picture is blurry.)

Today we left here separately.
Tom headed over to top off our propane and I made a
quick stop at Dollar General.

Quartzsite is in our review mirror for this adventure.

Our destination was Palm Canyon Road and this spot.

We had a lovely warm afternoon
and then watched the sun set on our day.

A shadow selfie with our home  next to us
and the Kofa Mountains in the distance.

A baby Ocotillo growing near where we are parked.

There were a few clouds to the Northwest of us tonight

and there gift was a rosy afterglow.
A nice view to end our day.

Today we drove over to Yuma. First to visit the Arizona Market Place there was something I wanted to purchase. Second to pick up groceries at Walmart and Fry's. We stopped for lunch at what we thought was the From the Farm Restaurant just North of Yuma on US-95 we have stopped there several times in the past. I like their tacos on cabbage leaves and Tom likes to have a date shake. We were not paying attention to the sign as we pulled in. If we had we would have noticed it is now Dirty South Barbecue. They did have tacos, pulled pork, brisket, etc...another words barbecue, and Tom was able to get a date shake. Not bad we would go again but a surprise. Plus, if you like to look at stuff old and new they still have stuff for sale.

Today we took a ride out to the Crystal Hill Rock Collection Area in the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. Friends, Cathy and Shane are parked out here and we went to visit them.
They had a really wonderful spot; I wish I had thought to take a picture. We spent time talking about their adventures looking for crystals plus this and that. In no time the afternoon had flown by and we knew we needed to get back down the road before dark. It is a very bad, bumpy, rocky, pot holed road. The pictures below are of the sunsetting as we drove west towards 95 and one looking east where we had come from. We cut it close, and it did not help that I had Tom stop a few times so I could jump out and snap a picture, but we mad it out before the dark enveloped us.

Tom likes to take a ride back behind the Dome Mountain BLM area there is a working gold mine back there, at least that is what we have been told, but mainly it is a nice short ride to take in some pretty views. The pictures below are of those views.

Today was set aside to take a ride over to Wickenburg, Arizona. It is about 92 miles east  of Quartzsite on US-60 and if you stay on US-60 in about another hour you would be in Phoenix.
Our purpose today was to check out the area and a couple of places Tom had found online that are for sale. As much as we really like fulltiming at the same time we would like to have a small home with enough land to park the motorhome on. On our list as we start to look is that it is in Arizona and within a couple of hours of a decent airport and Wickenburg fits that bill. Not sure it is the place we want to settle but it is a nice area.

Lunch at the Local Press where we enjoyed some delicious
pressed sandwiches and we both agreed we would eat here
again. It is a small shop with outdoor seating.

After lunch we took a short walk around a couple of blocks.

In front of the American Legion

I miss seeing the Caboose at the end of trains.

Was another day spent not doing much of anything. We did take a ride over and checked out Gem World and spent a few dollars other then that we were home bodies.

We are glad you stopped by!
If you have time to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you.

  1. Wickenburg is a nice area. We stayed at the North Ranch Escapees Park just up the road and explored the area.
Glad you enjoyed the Kofa area.

    1. I think Cathy and Shane are enjoying the search for sure and it was nice to touch base with them.
The Wickenburg area is a nice area we will be doing more researching.

  3. I was going to suggest Wellton but Wickenburg is a better option if you want a major airport close by. Safe travels!

    1. Actually Welton is on our short list. Though the Yuma Airport may be the drawback. Just starting the search.

    1. The proximity to Phoenix is certainly a plus. We will be doing more research and probably will be spending more time there in the fall. It is one of the places on our short list.

    1. We had only driven by, also, in the past. After our short visit we know we need to do more research and probably stay there next fall and see if we like it.

    1. We will be looking to spend more time there in the Fall at least that is the plan right now. Its proximity to a major airport would be a big plus for us. Hugs.

  7. Okay, this old gal has it down Pat (or Deb). :) I checked the dates first and started at the bottom. Good luck with your search for a place to call 'home-land', Wickenburg sounds nice.
I love the picture in there of the sun setting between the Ocotillo branches and the baby one - so cute!

    1. The whole looking for a place is fun and a chore at the same time...lol I think this year made us realize it is important to have a place to call "home-land". (Not sure why I started doing that it makes no sense to have you start at the bottom and read up. Not sure what my thinking was.) Stay safe.
