We Have Moved to La Posa South

We were up early today as we are moving but just a few miles down the road. First things first we our morning coffee was enjoyed. Not a lot to pack up as we had done most of it on Tuesday.  We are headed to La Posa South to join friends, Patsy, Bill, and Nancy, who are already parked out there. Tom did have to go in to Quartzsite to top off our diesel and propane in the Stinger "B" before heading to our new neighborhood. While he did that I made a quick stop at the Coyote Market for a few grocery items. We then met at the entrance of La Posa South to get registered before Tom got to spend time in two more lines to dump and fill our fresh water tank. While he had that fun I drove out to where the group was parked. When he was finished he drove the rest of the way out, he parked our home, and after getting a few things done inside we joined the others at Patsy and Bill's for Happy Hour.  

There are a lot of rigs out here and more coming in every day. I know if we were by ourselves we would not enjoy being here with this many rigs around us. Yet gathering with friends, and I believe this is the fourth time we have met out here during this time in January, it never feels as crowded as it actually is.  (Side note: when I mention rigs around us I am not talking about being parked by friends that is always enjoyable.)

It was chilly this morning and I was not going outside so I slid open the bedroom window to capture the sun as it came up behind the mountains. Today really was just a day to relax. Tom finished putting  a few things outside and I crocheted. Later our neighbors, Nancy, Patsy, and Bill joined us on our patio for Happy Hour. With the wind coming out of the north and the cloud cover an hour is pretty much what it was before the chilled air chased us all in our homes. Still it was a nice time spent together. All and all a good day.

Today after our morning coffee and a early lunch we headed into Quartzsite our first stop was a store on Main Street for a couple of items we wanted to buy.  The second stop was to take a quick walk around a couple of the vendors on Kuehn Street. Turning onto Kuehn at the Love's Station and heading east it looks like the Rock and Gem area is up and running. A little further down it looks like another vender area is being set up just before the Tyson Wash. We will be going back to check that out as I did spot a sign that said beads. Someone was leaving as we drove down Kuehn near the venders so the Jeep got a great parking space right near were we wanted to walk. Okay to be honest the word should be shop not walk...lol We checked out a few tents and left a few dollars behind. 

This area will only get busier the next couple of weeks.

We had dinner here this evening.

When we got back in the Jeep to head home I noticed a message from Patsy asking if we would like to go out to dinner at the above tent restaurant. We thought there would be music tonight but no luck. Music or no music it was a nice dinner out with friends. 

Pulling back into our neighborhood we said our good nights and then Tom and I decided a Hot Toddy sounded good. After they were made we took them outside and enjoyed them sitting out on our patio. Most places where we park out in the desert once the sun goes down there is an inky darkness as you look into the distance and a silence only occasionally broken by a distance generator or coyote. Here in La Posa South there is never that inky darkness or complete silence. Sitting out tonight we could hear a crowd having what sounded like a fun time in the distance nothing unpleasant and it is part of being parked here. What I do enjoy is seeing the lights of Quartzsite and especially the headlights of the traffic on I-10 in the distance that twinkle in the night. 

Another good day and evening in the desert.

Friends Stop By, A Sunset, and Pictures of Our Remodel

I stood outside for a bit watching the sun come up on our Sunday. It was a little chilly at 45 degrees but the sky was a beautiful blue and watching the desert slowly come alive is worth the cold hands, at least for a bit,...😊...but only for a bit then I retreated back inside where Tom had hot coffee ready.

We had a nice surprise this afternoon when fellow Yooper's, Cathy and Shane, stopped by for a short visit. They had come into Quartzsite to get some groceries and we are glad stopping to see us was part of their list of things to do today.

I remembered and they nicely agreed 

to having their picture taken.

Not long after they left  I walked out

Changes Inside of the Stinger "B"

As I mentioned when we were in Indiana last April the plan was to come back in the fall and have some changes made to the inside of the Stinger "B" which is what we did. There is still more to be done as we need to find two captain chairs and the front curtain needs to be replaced. (Though it looks like we have found a place to get the new curtains.) Plus we are waiting on a estimate to replace the valances which will be done in the spring. 

These are pictures of what we have had done so far.  I included the following information so we have it for future reference.

We had all the carpeting replace on September 20th at Classic Boat & RV Carpet in Harrison Twp, MI. We were able to park next to the shop with electricity.

On October 3rd we arrived at Wood Design RV in Nappanee Indiana for the install of our desk/dinette area which began early on the morning of the 4th. They had a place for us to park with an electric hookup.

On October 6th we moved over to Lehman's Solid Surface for the install of our new countertop, sink and stove top. We parked here with no hook ups.

We moved to Comfort Design by Lambright in Topeka, IN on the 7th and our sofa and chair were installed the next morning. Parked overnight with no hook ups.

On Monday, 11th,  we went back to Lehman's Solid Surface to have a backsplash installed which we decided on after the counter was installed. This only took a few hours.

I am thrilled with this piece. They did a wonderful job of 

matching the design and color of our cupboards.

The table does have a fold down leg in the front for 

when we would add in the leaf.

I am so happy with this countertop. They added 4 inches extra 

 counter past the sink and it has really made a difference. 

The sink Mr. Lehman found for us is deep and wonderful.

Plus, there are sink covers to add counter space when needed. 

The backsplash across the back is one piece and we were

impressed by the job the young man did around the window.

This was a really pleasant surprise. 

Bottom picture is blurry but there were mirrors surrounding the stove top. The young man who took them down did not have much hope that the wall behind would be in good condition. Honestly we did not either; we all thought they were glued and screwed to the wall. As you can see in the top picture we lucked out; what he found out was there was a total of eight screws holding them to the wall and no glue. Now four of those screw holes are hidden by the backsplash. Still contemplating what we will do around the stove but there will definitely not be any mirrors.

 I wish I would have thought about the valances when we where there in April ordering the desk/dinette area. I did not think about it until we removed the old booth and couch which is what they matched. We are both very happy with what we have had done inside our home, which we lovingly call the Stinger "B", so far.

Shopping, Friends Visit and (More Catching Up)

As we drank our coffee this morning we talked about going to Mexico for lunch, we talked about taking a ride, we talked about doing some shopping, and we talked about doing absolutely nothing. In the end shopping won there were a couple of places I wanted to go and pick up a few things so after slowly letting the morning slip by we got ready and took off.

First stop Hobby Lobby were I did not find what I was looking for, a small basket for fruit, but a couple other things. Then I walked a couple of doors down to Dollar Tree to pick up Valentine's Day Cards.
After that we headed over to Felicity to stop at the gift shop at the Center of the World. In the past we had picked up a cute book for our grandkids there and with the arrival of Thomas Norman this past summer we needed one more. Then we took a ride out to the Imperial Date Gardens Gift Shop. Tom had not had a date shake yet this adventure and that needed to happen. Plus, we picked up some dates for later.

The fields of vegetables really are quite beautiful but you 
can see as you drive a lot a lot of hard work goes into
 keeping those fields green and productive.

Yuma is the Iceberg Lettuce Capital of the World
and we could see it being picked today.

Today was one of those laid back days. We had friends coming over for Happy Hour but I had made snacks last night and all the ingredients for the Beer Margaritas were in the refrigerator waiting to be mixed up. So after our coffee this morning we slowly got ready and then had a quick lunch. Though the temperatures were in the low 60's the other rigs surrounding us pretty much block any breeze. Plus, our patio is facing southwest and with the sun shining sitting outside today waiting for our company to arrive was quite pleasant. With a sweater I found I was warm enough to enjoy the fresh air. Linda and Len arrived right around 2 o'clock and their friends Delores and Trav arrived not long after. We had things set up inside if it felt to chilly sitting out but everyone agreed it was nice to be outside. We enjoyed meeting their friends, both couples are from Oregon, and the time flew by spent  chatting about a little of this and a little of that.  After everyone left Tom and I sat out a little longer enjoying the sun's warmth. When it started to sink in the west it took its warmth with it and it was time to come in. It certainly was a pleasant afternoon spent with friends. To bad I did not remember about taking a picture until it was just Tom and I sitting out there. Seriously, I need a large sign.

We were both up before the sun. Tom made coffee and I went out to take pictures of the sun rising and bringing light to the new day.

After hugs all around and the see you down the roads Tom got in the Stinger "B" and I got in the Jeep to pull out. Tom will be stopping to top off our water as we will be boondocking for a few more days then he will be heading into Quartzsite to top off our diesel. After that we are only going a few miles down the road so we will not be hooking the Jeep up.

I drove into Quartzsite to take one last look around while Tom got Diesel and then as we headed out I had a "Service Shifter"  show up on the screen and when I looked down all the shift lights were on. So I pulled over and called Tom to let him know. I shut it off, as Tom suggested, and restarted the Jeep and it was gone. Tom decided to follow me just in case I had another issue. (It would not be that easy for him to turn the motorhome around and come back for me.) It happened one more time as we pulled into our new site and then not again. Though as I mentioned in the last post it has since been taken care of.

As the sun started to set tonight I put my zoom lens back on.

I wanted to be able to capture all the shadows in the nooks and
crannies plus the colors. Deb had mentioned how this mountain
takes on a pink hue at sunset and I wanted to see it up close.

There are many reasons we love being parked out in the desert.
Two of them are sunrises and sunsets.

The plant life, the mountains, and the sky 

put on two great shows a day.

I know Tom is not looking at the sun but I love how it looks
like he is. He was actually on the hunt for firewood.

The sun was setting on our day and I loved watching it

and with a clear view of it I took a lot of pictures.

I narrowed it down to these.

With just a touch of orange left soon the sky will be black
and filled with stars.

Mixed emotions today. I, and I think Tom feels the same way, am always somewhat sad to leave LaPosa South. It was a fun two weeks and we enjoy our time there visiting with friends. Yet we are so happy that Deb and Riley were willing to share there place in the desert with us. It is beautifully quiet here and the views go on and on.
