We are Boondocking

Thursday, October 31, 2019

We are dry camping/boondocking  for the first time this our Sixth Adventure. We found what we think is a pretty good spot. Closer to other rigs then we like to be but far enough that we do not feel crowded.

We are out on a little peninsula of land.

This is our view out the door.

This is the view sitting looking out the windshield.
I said to Tom this is perfect. I can sit here and watch the
sun come up while drinking my coffee. Nothing
to obstruct my view and I will be warm at the same time.

We are about to sit down and enjoy our first Happy Hour
outside. With the sun shining and no wind it was wonderful
to finally be sitting outside and enjoying the fresh air.

While we were sitting there two guys pulling a popup camper stopped and asked if we minded if they went past us and parked out on the point. Tom said, no not at all. Neither of us felt we could say, yes we would mind. It was nice they asked, we were just surprised they considered parking there just in front of us. It is not that they are in anyway bad neighbors, we would not even know they were there if we did not look out the front window. It is just that they took away my unobstructed sunrise view out the window.  Oh well, we will have a lot more wonderful unobstructed views over the next couple of months. Plus, with any luck they will be gone tomorrow.

My new view.

While the sun was setting I took a walk to the edge of the
canyon in front of us. It is a gradual drop off. The road
down below looks to be in good shape and the jeep just
may take a trip in the next couple of day.

The sun setting on our first night boondocking and even
with the power pole still beautiful.
The three bottom pictures are of the last of the sun light
touching the mountains and hills around us in the distance.

After the quietness of the night
the sun begins to rise on a new day.

As the darkness enveloped us a total hush fell over this place. I do not think we have ever parked in such a quiet place.

We are glad you stopped by.
If you have time to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you.

  2. Yes, it would have been tough to tell your neighbor he couldn't park at the point. The upside is that you have a neighbor if something were to go wrong out there. Enjoy!

    1. It is a great spot and we had a clear view ahead until they moved ahead of us. It was nice they asked and the distance was not an issue. We will have lots of nice views and it looked like they were enjoying this one.

  4. You still managed to get nice sunset/sunrise pictures. The neighbours must be decent to at least ask. It is hard to say no but they don't seem too close. Lots more opportunities to come! :)
We're not sure where you are parked but enjoy the day!

    1. Thanks, they really were not bad neighbors and like you said they did ask and I could still see the sunrise over their popup. We are on BLM Land near Valley of Fire State Park called Poverty Flats.

  6. What a beautiful place to boondock! I had to laugh,on your label you call it poverty flats. When we had our property in Winnemucca, it was 20 miles outside of town in a projected "sub division" that never made it because it was 20 miles out of town, we found out it was called poverty flats by the locals. Well sure enough, we live 7 miles out of Yerington and again we live in Poverty Flats. Twice in our lifetime..haha. Oh well we love it. See you soon!!!

    1. That is funny and interesting. We did not make it to your Poverty Flats but we still ended up in one. See you soon.
P.S. This is a nice spot but I am pretty sure yours would have been nicer.

  7. Looks like you have found a nice place to boondock. To bad about the guys parking in front of you but, like you said, it was nice they asked. The thing I love the most about boondocking is how quiet it is ... enjoy :-)
