Sunrise...Sunset

Sunday, January 27, 2019

Many mornings out here in the desert the light from the sun before it rises above the mountains puts on a lovely color show. It is always worth sitting and watching. The pictures below are of that sort of a morning. We were up and driving towards Parker this morning for Mass, breakfast, groceries, and to do a couple of batches of wash. So most of the pictures are taken out the side window of the Jeep.

Stepping out our door this was our view to the east.
The sun will soon make its appearance over these mountains.

All around us

the sky is full of color.

Color continuously changing.

Then just as we turned towards the west and Parker
the sun popped up over the mountains under the clouds.

Now the sun is behind us

and we can see it, little by little,

lighting up the desert and mountains in the distance.

We attend Mass at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parker.
They just finished restoring this cross and had it placed back
on top of the church this past week.

We spotted some low flying planes just as we turned south
on AZ-95 on our way home.
From what I read on the blogs, Our Awesome Travels and Chillin' with Patsy, two of our neighbors, it was a lovely sit out and enjoy the day type of day. I was thinking as we were finishing up today's errands we were missing doing just that but there will be more to come. They both also posted some nice pictures of our Happy Hour which we are happy to say was at our patio today.

After spending time sitting and enjoying a lovely Happy Hour, with the friends parked around us, we continued to sit out and watch the sunset. Tonight's dinner was brats and salad and since neither of us felt in a rush to eat we enjoyed the evening until the last of the light.

The sun slipping behind the mountains across the way.

Switched lenses as the light show started.

Pictures of our sunset would not be complete without
one of the mountains to the east.

Looking at the sky behind us, and you probably cannot tell from the picture,
the Ocotillo behind us looked somewhat green to me.

Walking closer to check it out

yes, those are tiny green buds on the stems. That will turn into
hundreds of tiny green leaves.  I am smiling!

As we sat enjoying the evening sky. Pat, Kim and Ken came out.
Pat and Ken, I am guessing, having a discussion about camera settings
before they all turned to take pictures of the sky.

This is today's "just because I liked it picture".

Then one finally picture before the last of the light left the sky.

After writing the title for today's post this song sprung into my thoughts and would not let go so I end today's blog with its lyrics.

Sunrise Sunset

Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?
I don't remember growing older
When did they?

When did she get to be a beauty?
When did he grow to be so tall?
Wasn't it yesterday
When they were small?

Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
Blossoming even as we gaze

Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears

What words of wisdom can I give them?
How can I help to ease their way?
Now they must learn from one another
Day by day

They look so natural together
Just like two newlyweds should be
Is there a canopy in store for me?

Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears.

It was a day spent doing things we enjoy and a couple of things that needed to be done.
Yet, we would say it was a good day.
How can a day when tiny green buds, that promise beautiful tiny green leaves,
on a Ocotillo are discovered not be a wonderful day?

We are glad you stopped in to visit.
If you have time to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you.
Have a wonderful day!

  1. The sky's have been beautiful, difficult to capture the the whole picture in a camera, until they get the dynamic range we'll have to be satisfied with storing them in our onboard memories.

    1. Hello JB, So true the camera never takes the picture we actually see but the memories are always with us. The pictures just help jog the memory.

    1. Hello and thank you.
As beautiful as the sunrises and sunsets are back where we are from there is something extra about them out here. Like you, when we are not here we do miss them.

    1. I love the Ocotillos even without leaves so I am looking forward to the green leaves...
They did do a nice job with the cross and from what the priest said, at Sunday Mass, the next step is to light it up. Should be very pretty at night.
