Last Day in Colorado and Heading Towards Utah

Saturday, October 19, 2019

Saturday was our last day at the Junction West RV park in Grand Junction, CO. Tom took the time to check all the tire pressures on the Stinger "B" and Jeep along with a few other last minute things in preparation for taking off in the morning. We then went to Mass at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. After that we picked up a few groceries and headed home.

Some fall color in Grand Junction.

Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Very modern but pretty church.

Moving day. We were heading to an RV park in Green River, Utah and with only 97 miles to go we took our time leaving. Though we did pull out 30 minutes before check out.

We had excellent WiFi at this site.
Straight down the fence were it says 26, our site number,

was one of the WiFi antennas/ boosters. Not sure what they
are called all I know is our connection never slowed down.

Merging on to I-70 and heading west.

I do love seeing windmills.

About 30 minutes later we left Colorado in the rear view mirror

and crossed into Utah.

Now everyone will be passing us a lot faster.

Sometimes when we are traveling down the road I think to
myself, I really hope the road ahead does not just drop
down into nothingness.

So far so good and there has always been more road when
we crest the hill...LOL

We stopped at the Visitor Center which was 40 miles into Utah.
As you can see from the flags there is a little bit of a breeze.

Interesting thing about Utah's welcome sign, when we
crossed into Utah by the Dinosaur National Monument
the sign had a Dinosaur on it and now this one features
the Delicate Arch at Arches National Park.

We have made it to our exit and the RV Park,
Shady Acres RV Park and Campground.

The following picture and information actually goes with the Dinosaur National Monument post.

Patsy, Chillin' with Patsy, had mentioned a hike near the monument. Because of the name I was intrigued. I checked it out and found out it was a 3.2 mile loop and described as a moderate to difficult trail. It mentioned some steep sections on slickrock so I knew we were not going to be hiking it. Yet I still wanted to check it out. It was on the ride we took in the monument.

The Sound of Silence Trail.
We did walk down a little ways. Just to say we did.

The rest of the story:  Tom and I met back in 1965, yes we were children...LOL, the first time he asked me to dance the song playing was Simon and Garfunkel's the Sound of Silence.

And the vision that was planted in my brain still remains within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone, narrow streets of cobblestone
A'neath the halo of a street lamp, I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night and touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking, people hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never shared, no one dared disturb the sound of silence

"Fools," said I, "you do not know, silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you, take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words like silent raindrops fell and echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning in the words that it was forming
And the sign said "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls and whispered in the sound of silence"

Lyrics by Paul Simon

  1. That song was very popular when Dolly and I first met our freshman year in college. Great memories. Looking like the weather is holding up for you two.

    1. It is beautiful, as you said, this area is just we expected Utah to look like.
The only sad thing is that Seven Mile Parking is now $30 in front and $40 in the back. Only 2 motorhomes in front. The owner may have over-priced himself out of business unless a person is desperate.

  4. Another beautiful drive you had, love that area of Utah, well actually there's not many areas of Utah we don't like :) I could miss Salt Lake (but not a fan of big cities). I have to say with the many churches you've shown pictures of, I really like the smaller traditional looking ones. Hoping mass was good. Ken loves that song :) You are in a very beautiful area, I know you'll enjoy it!! :)

    1. I can see why you like Utah it is beautiful and exactly like we expected. Not sure how much, if any, exploring we will do in Salt Lake City we are not a fan either.
We really prefer the look of the smaller mission churches in the southwest, also, it was beautiful in its own way though.
We will be enjoying our time as we continue traveling west and north towards Nevada...:)
