A Quiet Sunday and Windy Monday (More Catching Up)

Sunday, February 2. 2020

Ended up being a fairly quiet day here we actually slept in and had a late breakfast while a couple more batches of wash were getting done.
A little later we headed out the door to go to a late Mass back at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. On the way we checked out where the service center is that Tom will be bringing the Jeep to in the morning. It is a straight shot from here so that will be an easy ride. I wanted to stop at a Michaels to pick up a skein of brown yarn and as luck would have it, it was pretty much around the corner and on the way over to the church. After Mass we headed over to the theater in the Yuma Palms Shopping Center. They had a 6:15 showing of the latest Star Wars movie that we had not seen yet, The Rise of Skywalker. Yes, we are "those people" we have enjoyed almost all the Star War movies. Back home the wind has arrived and I could feel the Stinger "B" rocking as I got ready for bed.

It was windy when we went to bed and the wind was still with us when we got up. As I sit and write this clouds have shown up and filled the sky. Tom left early this morning to bring the Jeep in to try and find out what is wrong and I am catching up on the blog, reading and writing, and continuing to do batches of wash. I know not everyone would agree but I do like having a washer in here. Yes, that does mean smaller loads but I do really, really like that I do not need to leave home and can be doing other things while washing.
A diagnostic on the Jeep shows our voltage was low causing us to get false trouble messages. That is the short version of what Tom told me. So now we have a new battery which hopefully means the end of the problem.

(Still Catching Up)

I remember we were running late and did not make it to Parker in time for Mass. We ended up going to breakfast at the Crossroads Cafe. We have been there in the past and the food is decent though with all the people there this weekend for the races that may have contributed to how we felt walking out. The service was excellent but the food and the lack of cleanliness, to be honest, in the bathroom was not what we remembered. Like I said, because it was a busy weekend that could have been the reason and the young man who served us did offer to take the food back, I was the one who declined.

After breakfast we headed over to the laundromat, dry camping does mean I do not use our washer. We put the three loads in, Tom stayed with the wash and I headed over to the Walmart to pick up a few groceries. I returned just as Tom was taking the last load out of the dryer.

The sun coming up as we made our way towards Parker.

Crossing over I-10 we can see Q Mountain in the distance
and all the tents of the vendors at Tyson Wells. The
Big Tent is off to the left in the background.

Back home we unloaded wash and groceries before taking a ride a little farther south down US-95 to find Deb and Riley and do some catching up. They had found a nice place just a short ways off of the highway. While we talked Deb mentioned she had found what she thought was an even better place just a little farther south and she planned on doing some investigating the next day.  The afternoon went by fast, as it always does when you are enjoying the conversation and company, and soon it was time to head home.

We arrived back at LaPosa South just as Happy Hour was breaking up. We would have sat for a few minutes but Tom noticed that the black tank needed to be dumped and we needed to do it now. We had about an hour to get to the dump before they shut it and the water down for the day. With only two rigs in front of us at the dump we had enough time to take on water and it cut off just as our fresh water tank read full.

Tonight's sunset and afterglow were beautiful

even watched from the dump and water stations.

At one point it looked like the clouds above the mountains
were on fire. (Clicking on them should open them larger.)

Even towards the end

when most of the sky had turned black

some color peaked out above the mountains
 below the dark clouds.

Back in our site we sat and

watched the last of the light

before the black of the desert night surrounded us.

This is our last day parked here at LaPosa South for this Adventure It is hard to believe two weeks have passed since we pulled into this spot. It seems like we just got here and it is time to move on. We always enjoy these two weeks even with the the crowds and hustle and bustle that goes with being in Quartzsite during the busiest time of the year. When we first got here the rigs were coming in at a steady pace and now as we leave the exodus is just as steady. With all of this there is a quiet here that you would not expect. Yes, during the day there is the coming and going of life but once the evening darkness descends the quiet comes. If you look out into the darkness you can see lights blinking in the distance, the traffic on I-10 is visible, as are the lights of Quartzsite, and campfires dot the landscape. Yet the noise of life does not seem to penetrate the darkness and as I write this I hear no outside noises. (I wrote the above on that Monday while we were still parked at LaPosa South)

Over the years we have seen a lot of different rigs out in the
desert. This would be one for the list.

A text from Deb had us going back down US-95 to this
spot in the desert.

The  most unusual Saguaro
we have ever seen.

Standing outside at the site we could see the Dogsled pulling
Deb and Riley's home, the Igloo towards us.

The views go on for ever and we agreed it is a wonderful spot.

They are getting settled as we leave and tomorrow we will
be parked with this view out our door.

We followed a cloud of dust back to the Stinger "B" and were not sure about sitting out for Happy Hour. But then we sat out on our patio and it was not to bad. Dave and Cheryl drove in and Patsy walked over with her chair to join us. Shortly after Bill and Keith arrived back from, as I recall, working on Keith's plane and joined the group.

for this year at LaPosa South.

It was a good two weeks at LaPosa South ; the time just goes by way to fast. We certainly were sad to find out Gorge passed away while we were there. Yet just like our time spent here with our friends this year he and Suzie will always be part of the memories we have of this beautiful place.

We are glad you stopped by!
If you have time to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you!

  2. I guess you never know what the weather will be here in Arizona. It differs from day to day, month to month and year to year.

    1. That does sum up the weather but in the end the views of the desert and mountains along with the sunrises and sunsets make it worth it. Plus, that describes our weather back in the UP minus the large accumulation of snow that stays and stays...LOL

  3. So glad it was just a battery problem and easily resolved. That was the oddest rv I've ever seen by a long shot. Fire truck with a yacht top pulling a boat.

  6. Whether it's 12 volts in the car or 12 volts in the rig, either can cause us a lot of trouble. Hope you have it solved.
Must be nice to be connected to full services now. Enjoy!
