288 Miles and We Are in Mississippi (Catch Up: A Visit With Friends and Our Last Two Days in Arizona)

Friday, March 13, 2020

We crossed over the Mississippi River at 5:09
this afternoon and are now officially in the East.

We left our parking spot at the Texas Rest Area under rainy skies. Our goal today was to make it to Vicksburg, MS. As you can see in the picture above we did just that.

Pulling out of our parking space at the rest area.
Bottom Left and Middle Pictures our view .
Top Left, Top, and Bottom Right we are on I-20 heading East.

We crossed into Louisiana around 1:24 PM.

We are now parked at the Lady Luck Casino in Vicksburg, MS for the night. We are contemplating a change of plans and are not exactly sure where we are going next. By the next post it will have been decided and I will share what the decision was in the blog.

Catching Up

Wednesday, March 4, 2020

Our plan for today was to ride out and spend some time with two special ladies, Deb and Riley, On a long and lonesome highway.... At the time they were parked in a beautiful site out in the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area. It was a beautiful day and we were looking forward to our time with them and sitting in the sunshine with the beautiful golden grass surrounding us.

On our way west on AZ-82 I just really liked this cloud.

After three tries I finally got a picture of this
Welcome to Sonoita sign

and the Kokopelli as we drove by.

This windmill is on AZ-83, these are one of my
favorite wind machines.
(If you click on the picture it will open larger and you
will be able to see the moon just above the windmill.)

These grasslands are beautiful.

The last time we came out for a visit the Igloo was the only
RV parked out here. The neighborhood has grown.

We spent a lovely afternoon sitting under this beautiful blue sky chatting away. Not sure what we talked about but I know it was interesting because as we finally folded out chairs and got up to leave the sun was low in the Western sky. It was a good day and we are looking forward to the next time we cross paths with this beautiful mother and daughter.  Until then take care and safe travels, Deb and Riley!

We take a pretty good picture.
After several hugs we pulled away.

We headed out hoping to make it through the NCA before the
light left us. We were not far when we realized that was not
going to happen so we turned back going out the way we
came in, off of AZ-83

I am looking for a special tree for a project I want to do
with our children and grandchildren. When I decide on the
one I will share the project with all of you.

The sun had already set as we made out way out of the NCA.

Making our way back to the Stinger "B"

as the last of the light leaves the day.

Today was a day of packing up and getting ready to head down the road in the morning. I did wash and Tom packed up what we had out outside. By the time I noticed the sun had set this beautiful afterglow was coloring the sky around us. These were the only four pictures I took today. I especially liked the second one.

We got up this morning and over coffee decided to stay one more day right where we were. Instead of two short days of driving we decided on a 5 hour day. The goal tomorrow will be to stop for the night at the Scenic Overlook Rest Area overlooking Las Cruces, NM. (The one with the large roadrunner made out of recycled materials.)

Sitting outside looking at the clouds floating by.

Heading over to Sierra Vista to pick up a few groceries.
I finally remembered to take a picture of their sign.

(Lots of cropping)

Leaving Fry's we could see that there was a beautiful afterglow in the sky.

I mentioned to Tom as I was taking these pictures,

I bet Deb and Riley's view of this out at Las Cienegas in
really beautiful.

After 21 nights at Quail Ridge in the morning we started the wheels rolling East again. We really enjoyed our time at this park. My sister came and spent time with us, we visited with friends, and spent time relaxing. During this time the Stinger "B" had her brakes checked plus she and the Jeep had a much needed bath. One of the other things we were stopped and waiting for was our license plate tabs, which finally arrived on March 3rd. It was a longer stay then we "planned" but the nice thing about this lifestyle is that plans can be easily changed. I have typed it before and it is worth repeating, We are so lucky to be able to be living our retirement dream. It is a good life and we are enjoying the journey.

We are glad you stopped by!
If you have time to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you.

  3. That Las Cienagas area is sure pretty, but not nearly as green as you've found in Mississippi.
Stay safe wherever your travels take you!

    1. The golden grass in the Las Cienagas is beautiful and the green of Mississippi is, also. Enjoying the best of what each area has to offer.
