A Quiet Day in the Desert, Mexico with Friends

Friday. March 15, 2019

Today was one of those we did not do anything special type of days. One when I look back from just four days I cannot remember exactly what we did. I do remember when we sat out in the late afternoon and I took a short walk around our "front yard" and took these pictures.  Now thinking of when I took the pictures of the Saguaros I do remember the day. When I took these Tom was still rinsing some of the dust off of the Stinger "B" and I had just come back from running a couple of errands in Quartzsite.

Bottom right some of the tiny plants that make the desert floor look green.
A tiny purple and a  yellow wildflower.
Two just because pictures.

Early in the afternoon Kathy and Rick, It's about time, stopped by for a quick
visit and invite us over for a campfire Saturday night. (If the wind behaves
itself that is.) It was  a nice surprise to see them pull up and in what seemed
like no time at all a couple of hours had passed. Watching them pull away I
realized I had forgotten to take a picture. So I grabbed my camera and
managed to get a picture of their truck as they drove away.

As we sat there watching the sun set. I took this picture

then decided to grab my zoom  and take a couple pictures using it.

Just playing

with the different

focal lengths.

More

of

the same.

I was surprised how close I could  bring the mountains
surrounding us with the zoom.  (East)

(North)

(South)

The last of the sun's light touching the tops of the mountings where it left us.

The twilight took what was left of the warmth and we retreated inside.  So ended another wonderful day parked in this quiet spot we found out in the Sonoran Desert.

Up early we are on our way to Los Algodones, Mexico. We are picking up friends, Linda and Len, at their place and Yuma. They have a lovely winter home in Yuma and I, as always, forgot to take a picture.  We were so happy it worked out that they were able to join us today and we are looking forward to our time together. We just knew it would be a good time.

In the Jeep and looking east the sun is still hiding behind the mountains.

To the west the sunlight can be seen on the top of the mountains.

Looking South the sunlight is touching the clouds and the sky.

Driving out the sun is starting to make its way above the mountains
and lighting up the desert floor..

After picking up our friends we headed over to Los Algodones our first stop was the place I bought my glasses a couple of weeks ago. They needed a little tweaking. (No I am not wearing them yet in the picture below. They are quite a bit stronger and will need some getting used to. Today was not the day for that.) After leaving there we did some walking around chatting and enjoying the fun of looking, bargaining, and making a couple of purchases.

One of the reasons we came, lunch and margaritas.

Tom took a picture of  our last look at Los Algodones for this year.
The guys stood in line for about 2 hours while Linda and I sat and chatted
on a bench waiting for them. The down side to having lunch there is the
line to leave. The margaritas were good though!

After dropping Linda and Len back home we enjoyed some time just sitting and chatting. Thank you for joining us Linda and Len we had a such an enjoyable/fun time. Looking forward to next time. All of a sudden realizing what time it was we said a quick until next time and made a dash to an RV store to pick up windshield wipers for the motorhome before they closed. Then we stopped at Fry's for a few groceries before heading home.

Leaving on South Fortuna Rd

Tom pulled over so I could get this picture of the today's sunset.

The sun lighting up the mountains in the east as it slowly makes it decent.

We have now turned North on US-95

Always beautiful to see all the shadows the sun's light creates on the
mountains as it sets.

Love that I was able to capture this train in the last of the sun's light.

Tom pulled over, again,
this time so I could take some pictures of tonight's  afterglow.

So pretty to see the clouds

turn a rosy pink as we drove home.

We spent time with some good friends, had a great lunch with margaritas, and did a little shopping. Linda and I both left with new rings and a couple of other goodies. It was a good day from sunrise to sunset.

Glad you stopped by and we hope you enjoyed the pictures.
If you have time to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you.

  3. Your pictures are lovely, Deb. The sunset and the train are my favourites. Of course, the clouds always make a gorgeous photo when they are pink.
Nice to get back one last time to Los Algodones, it is never a bad time. Lunch does slow us down and puts us into a longer line. Good time to meet new people, in the line.

    1. Thank you, Patsy. I had a feeling you would like the train one...:)
Lunch was worth the wait in line and Linda and I had a nice chat. Plus, like you said always fun meeting new people as we wait. Not so sure the guys would totally agree though, since, they were actually the ones in the line...lol

  4. Your pictures are gorgeous Deb! Of course they always are with the setting you have! 2 hour wait, that seems even longer than most of the other times people went over earlier in the year! Lunch and margaritas, and friends, Perfect! So glad you two are enjoying yourselves!

    1. Thank you, Shirley and you are so right about the setting it makes it easy to get good pictures. When we have left earlier the line is not a problem but once it gets past lunch the longer, I think, the line gets. Lunch and Margaritas with friends definitely worth it.

  5. Wonderful photos Deb. I like the zoom, nothing quite like playing around with it.
Mexico sounds like a great time, nothing like good friends, good food and a good time to make the day go by fast.
Enjoy the rest of your time in Q.

  6. Beautiful Pictures as always.
We realized after we left that we hadn't taken any pictures either.
If you are still around we'll be having another Campfire on Friday.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.
