Veterans Day!
Today in the US we honor all those who served to keep our country free. Today like everyday we think of both our Dad's, Frank and Tom, both who served in the Army during World War II. Our son, Thomas, who served in the Army and both our brothers, Jerry and Frank, who served in the Navy. Tom and I thank them for their service. I personally say thank you to Tom who served in the Navy during the war in Vietnam.
We, also, thank all our relatives and friends who served to help keep our Country Free.
Veterans Day (originally known as Armistice Day) is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans of the United States Armed Forces. It began, and now coincides with other holidays, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are commemorated in other countries, marking the anniversary of the end of World War I. Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. At the urging of major U.S. veteran organizations, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.
Veterans Day is distinct from Memorial Day, a U.S. public holiday in May: Veterans Day commemorates the service of all U.S. veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who have died while in military service.
Remembrance Day!
To our Canadian Friends we will alway remember the sacrifice the men and women made in your Country to keep our world free. Thank you!
Remembrance Day is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty. The day is also marked by war remembrances in several other non-Commonwealth countries. In most countries, Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the end of First World War hostilities. Hostilities ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" of 1918, in accordance with the armistice signed by representatives of Germany and the Entente between 5:12 and 5:20 that morning. The First World War formally ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on 28 June 1919.
Our day started sitting out with Deb and Riley enjoying our time visiting and chatting away. Then it ended the same way. In between I did drive into Quartzsite to leave a few dollars at Gem World. Other then that it was a quiet enjoyable day in the desert. The sky was blue the sun was shining and we are together enjoying the company of friends. Life is good.
