Up before the sun this morning Tom and had already started the coffee before the sun came up and joined our day.
We both stepped out to see the sun come up |
and the first thing that greeted us was the full moon in the western sky. |
What a lovely way to start the day. |
Love watching how the sun brings light to the world around us, |
It is Friday the 13th a good day to add Rum Chata to our coffee. |
We need to find these little ones a new home to live in and come up with names. |
Later as the sun started to head down in the west we took some |
selfies including a shadow one. |
Then we sat down in our chairs, |
toasted to 50 years, |
and watched the sun go down on our day. |
We finished our day with a campfire |
as the last of the light left the sky. |
When people ask how we celebrated our 50th Anniversary we will tell them, we enjoyed a wonderful day together living our dream. |

We talked today about how quickly the years have flown by since the picture above and the picture below. There are a lot of memories between these two pictures. We both know the two people in the the picture above had no idea that someday they would be sitting in the desert toasting to 50 years of marriage. We were two young people who fell in love and started a journey together. Then we brought two children into our lives, things changed, and time flew by even faster. There were Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, band, dance lessons, voice lessons, piano lessons, Choir, Sports, and Cheer leading. School and Church activities to attend along with school plays. There were the Christmas and Spring Concerts then in a blink Graduation. All of a sudden we had two adults in our lives who were graduating from college, falling in love and adding to our family of four. A wedding and we were five then we blinked and another ten years went by and in that time nine little people came along that call us Papa and Nana.
All this happened because we took that step and through it all we had each other. Through the bad times we stood under that umbrella together and when that did not keep us from getting wet we learned to dance in the rain knowing we could not always choose the music but we could choose how we danced to it. In the good times we enjoyed the sunshine and it was brighter because we knew how to survive the storms. As best friends we learned how to continue the journey because the goal was always to arrive at whatever the destination was together. In the end all the things we have owned and own are just that things. No matter how old we get the best part is knowing we are each someone's world and hearing I love you is a wonderful thing. Tomorrow will be 18,263rd day of being a married couple and God willing there will be thousands of more days to get up and make the choice to be together. It is a Good Life!
P.S. This is the seventh anniversary we have celebrated on Friday the 13th. I guess it is a good thing we are not superstitious.

DeleteCongratulations you two. Beautifully written Deb. So nice at our age to have gone through so much and be at this great stage in our lives. Wishing you two 50 more.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Doug. It is wonderful to have come through what life brings, look back, and celebrate where we are in our lives.
DeleteWhat a lovely story of your lives. So many times we meet people but have no idea of their backgrounds. Backgrounds are a good indicator what is ahead and it is obvious you have good times in the future. I loved how you talked about dancing to whatever music there is... you don't celebrate the music...You Celebrate the Dance!! Is that belief what gave the name to this blog? Happy Anniversary and we hope to meet you again somewhere sometime. Keep dancing!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lorne.
ReplyDeleteWe have the quote on our wall, "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain." We would agree it is never about the music it is about the dance. One line in a song sung by Lee Ann Womack says, "And when you get the choice to sit out or dance I hope you dance." Combining those two thoughts, looking at our life together and our hopes for the future is how the name came to be at the top of our blog.
Hope to cross paths with you down the road, also.
Beautiful picture of the full moon. I think any day would be a good day to add Rum Chata to your coffee but Friday the 13th was a good choice! Congratulations on your 50th, I think you found the perfect way to spend it ☺ What a beautiful story of your life, thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteI think you are right about any day being a good day to put Rum Chata in our coffee...lol
You are so right that it goes fast. Congrats.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, how do I follow you?
DeleteThank you. How nice to hear from someone new.
DeleteI know there is a blogger gadget and that may be the way, honestly I am not really sure.
Congratulations!! That was my goal in life, to be married 50 years. I never did find the one who wanted to stay. So happy you two succeeded! That’s a major dance to celebrate!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nancy.
DeleteI would say, if they did not want to stay, their lose and your gain.
