Ogilby Road to Borrego Springs, California

February 10, 2017

Drinking coffee and watching the sunrise is how we started our day.

The sun is still behind the mountains but its light has turned the clouds
a beautiful orange.

Then everything turned golden.

Then we could see an orb of light through the branches of the tree.

Not long after that we were heading towards Ogilby Road (S34).

Looking at the map this morning we had a couple of choices of routes.
We choose to turn  north on S34 and connect to 78 going west.

We have turned west onto 78.
The sign said "Dips".

Mesquite Mine
One of the largest gold mines in the country it extracts 100,000 ounces of
gold annually valued at over $100 million.

Driving through the Imperial Sand Dunes
We see fields of green crops.

These looked like date trees behind the palms,

Then we could see orange trees.

It is hard to see in the picture but this field is being watered.
What looks like white sticks are actually sprinklers throughout the field.

They did not even stop us this time; just waved us through.

We stopped to dump our tanks, fill up our fresh water tank, and eat lunch at the Arco Station in Sultan City. We then turned onto S22 for the last 30 or so miles to Borrego Springs. The views driving along are beautiful.

Having read different blogs and after doing some research we decided we would try finding a site to park the Stinger B on Rockhouse Canyon Road. One thing we knew we needed to do was unhook the jeep and look for a site before driving the Stinger B in. We had read there was an area just past the Rockhouse Canyon Road that was a good place to park and unhook your toad. It was the perfect spot to do just that.

We found a couple of potential spots then kept going to check out the
Clark Dry Lake.

Now all we need to do is remember to take a picture of the Stinger B parked in its site.

It's not only the scenery you miss by going fast,
you also miss the sense of where you are going and why."
