Spending Time With Friends

Saturday, November 30, 2019

We were both up around 6:00 this morning, Tom made the coffee, we were chatting and drinking our second cup when I realized the sun was shining through the front curtain. I grabbed my camera and went out the door; sure enough it was above the mountains. Turned around after taking the first picture and took a shadow selfie with the Stinger "B" and Jeep

On our way east on Plomosa Road driving through the Plomosa mountains.

We drove up this road a couple years.
It was a nice ride until we got to a wash that was to steep
and rocky for the Jeep to climb out of. So we turned and
came back out and down this same road.

Always like the ride through here

and this view in the distance.

Just a saguaro I liked the look of.

I took one picture as we pulled into Melissa and Lyle's
wonderful spot. I really have to get better at remembering
to take pictures.

We spent a lovely afternoon with these two and then had a delicious dinner. I did contribute a couple of dishes but it was mostly their treat and Tom and I enjoyed every bite. Before dinner we sat and chatted outside by the fire for a little while. Between the sun and the heat from the fire it was nice sitting outside, enjoying the company, and fresh air. Later on after dinner when I asked Tom what time it was we could not believe it was 10:30. After saying our good nights it was time for the challenge of finding Plomosa Road. Always fun in the inky black of the desert but as you can see from the next picture's caption we did. Thank you, again, Melissa and Lyle for having us we had a wonderful visit.

(Side note: Last year we had planned on spending Christmas together but the Jeep and the weather had a different plan. So we had a Christmas/New Years dinner celebration around the 8th of January, I do not remember the exact date.
This year we planned on celebrating Thanksgiving together but the weather had a different plan. So we celebrated on November 30th. The good news, we are getting closer to the holiday we are trying to celebrate together. Of course, a date is just a date on the calendar celebrating with friends or family is about the time together not a date.)

We are back home I just love how the headlights
light up the bushes with the dark blackness behind.
(If you have never been in the desert after dark, just so
you know this is how black it is.)

I cannot believe I just wrote December up above! November certainly flew by. I love December it is a beautiful month filled with Christmas music, beautiful twinkling lights, and decorations. Plus, yes I am going to admit it, I loved watching the snow come down especially when it was those big fluffy flakes. Being out after dark, walking, hearing the snow crunching underfoot, and seeing the flakes twinkling in the street lights was beautiful. All nice memories which is where I like snow now in my memories. I am content with just remembering.  I am one of those people, though, that savors the anticipation of things to come and Christmas time seems to come faster and faster each year leaving less time to enjoy the anticipation. I am aware that it is just my perception of time but I do find as we get older time seems to fly so quickly.

Out our front window this morning.

Outside Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church
in Quartzsite.  What a lovely red flowering bush.
Have not idea what it is but it is full of red flowers.

The sun had already slipped behind the mountains when I
took this picture at the West end of Main Street.

Driving in the desert at night out on the BLM land is a challenge. Always glad to recognize the right saguaro then make the turn and see home.

The Stinger "B" in our headlights.
Good to be home.

We are so glad you stopped by!
If you have time to leave a comment we would enjoy hearing from you.

  2. I've only been down Plamosa once, looking for a friend who was camping there. I always parked the other direction at mile market 96? or maybe 91 where the ham radio operators are. I loved it there!!

    1. Our first boondocking experience was on Plomosa Road; we parked on the end closer to US-95. That is were we fell in love with being parked out in the desert and it continues to draw us back each winter.

  3. What a wonderful way to spend the day visiting friends. It is amazing how the time flies by when you're having fun. We learned our lesson last year about coming home in the dark. Haha. Glad you made it easily.

    1. Time certainly does fly when you are having fun. I remember how quickly the time flew when we were sitting and talking with you and Riley. Looking forward to the next time.
There have been a couple of times we have had to stop and swipe the head lights back and forth through the darkness looking for home...LOL

  6. Your first paragraph under December describes my feelings exactly :-) And the bush in front of the church looks like a bougainvillea.

    1. Thank you, a friend on Facebook also said it was a bougainvillea so I am guessing you are both right.
Nice to know I am not alone with my feelings about December...:)
